My dog has hives after new flea shampoo. Is it an allergic reaction?

This is probably an allergic reaction to the shampoo, this reaction should resolve without treatment within a few hours, if it doesn't- take her to the vet in order to get an anti histamine injection.

This is probably caused by an allergic reaction. first of all make sure you de-flea Kaine regularly every month with a high quality spot on (ex. Advantage) as fleas are by far the most common reason for these reactions. If the fleas are not the problem, it could be an allergic reaction to food or an environmental factor. this is more complicated to treat and will sometimes require medications such as Steroids, anti histamines or cyclosporin in order to stop the allergy.

If you suspect the flea treatment is responsible for this i recommend washing your dog very well with an anti allergenic dog shampoo, it will take several days to clear up but other than that no other treatment is usually required.

It definitely seems like she's reacting and it may be worth taking her to a vet for medication if this doesn't go down soon. The best thing you can do at this time is wash your dog again with just cool water. The cool water will help give some relief and will help to remove the cause of the reaction. I recommend using a shower head for 15 minutes all over her body, so there is good pressure to remove the shampoo residue. If she happens to start vomiting, has trouble breathing, or starts breathing faster than normal, then these are signs of a severe allergic reaction and I recommend taking her to the emergency vet immediately for treatment. Hi there. Beau may indeed be having a reaction to the shampoo. I would definitely use another dog shampoo and wash that Hartz product off. If you have access to an open animal hospital at this time I would definitely bring him in to be seen. He is very tiny, and it may be that the flea shampoo ingredients were a bit much for him. The tremoring could also be because is chilly, but I just wouldn't take the chance. I definitely don't want to alarm you, but I would just take him in to see a vet.
