Why is my dog having seizures, covered in ticks, and acting sick?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | DOG-MED-SHORTHAIR | Male | unneutered

I witnessed a dog experience what I can only describe as a seizure— choking, frothing, collapsing and then recovering after a minute and a half, reeling and staggering to its feet. He has these worms all over, apparently feeding off him and I could pluck out the large ones that had grown in size (see picture), and his eyes are dark red. He appears very morose, does not show any enthusiasm or vigour.

Hello. These are ticks & ticks can carry some pretty serious diseases. You can not rule out that your dog may also be experiencing true seizures due to epilepsy, but this is a instance where you need to get the ticks off your pet & seriously use a product to keep the ticks off as best you can. Kalo should be evaluated by a veterinarian in case he has already picked up one of the tick-borne diseases & I am sure your veterinarian can recommend the best tick products that are available in your country.
