My dog is shaking after parvo. Is it fever, pain? Can I give aspirin?

Trembling is a general sign and can be seen with several things that go from just being cold or nervous to being an indication of pain or discomfort. If Chuchay is otherwise fine, then it would be ok to monitor her for now. However, if at any point she appears to be in discomfort or stops eating or showing any other concerning symptoms, it may be best to have her evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. No, Cerenia last for 24 hours so redosing will not help. Since he is still vomiting, make sure you take all food and water away. Do not let him have anything by mouth to try to get his stomach to rest for 4-6 hours. Dehydration is still a concern given his size with the vomiting continuing despite the fluids he is getting. shaking can be a sign of cold or pain. Abdominal cramping is a major problem with parvo and he may need medication for that. Parvo is very aggressive and hard to treat and watch. Just keep with the medication and the IV fluids .

Poor guy. There are some complications that can arise from a pet having Parovivirus, and one of them is a condition called intussusception (folding in of the intestines). This is what I suspect may be going on with your pet Trap. He could also just have a really bad bacterial infection secondary to the parovirus and is in need of additional antibiotics. I typically put pets on Metronidazole and Cefazolin or Penicillin for total coverage. Talk to your vet about additional antibiotics. Also Trap could very well be shaking because he is in pain. Parvovirus causes sloughing of the intestines, which is uncomfortable for pets. Ask your vet about pain meds (i.e. Tramadol) for Trap. If she's stopped having diarrhea, this is a good sign. I hope that she has some medication on board for nausea and vomiting - if not, your vet should be able to prescribe some for you to give at home. Normally, with parvo, the best sign of recovery is when they have gone 24 hours without any vomiting and are eating on their own - until then, you need to continue treatment with fluids and other supportive care.

I assume you mean Bayer aspirin. Aspirin is not recommended for use in dogs and will cause stomach ulcers, and in overdose situations will cause kidney failure. I suspect he may be shaking because either he is in pain from the cause of the limp, or he may have an upset stomach from the aspirin. Offer a bland diet tonight (chicken and rice), and monitor him for vomiting. Offer small amounts of water frequently. First of all, NEVER give a dog any human medications unless directed by a veterinarian. Aspirin is extremely irritation to the stomach and will cause gastric bleeding very easily in dogs. If the weather has gotten very cold where you are, this could be affecting his attitude. The change in food may have put him a little off balance even though he's not showing any apparent symptoms. I recommend getting him in to see your vet, just to make sure there isn't something underlying that is causing him to be lethargic and subdued. If it's enough of a change to concern you, it's worth getting your vet to check just to be on the safe side.

Oh my. Poor guy. If he has a fever this can be caused by a bacterial or viral infection (i.e. Parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated). I would have him tested for parvovirus first and if that comes up negative he needs full panel bloodwork and a urinalysis. to fully evaluate him. He should be on antibiotics and fluid therapy to help bring down his fever. He also needs anti-vomit medication to prevent him from becoming dehydrated due to excessive vomiting. If his condition has not improved within 24-48 hrs, then you should consider having him hospitalized so that he can get around the clock care and treatment. Poor guy. For tonight you can try feeding him some slghly warmed up cans of baby food (meat and vegetables or squash) to try to entice him to eat.
