My dog seized after vomiting a bone. Is it epilepsy or something else?

I would be suspicious she may have a bout of pancreatitis which could be confirmed by a blood test at your vets office or possibly a bowel obstruction from bone fragments. I recommend a full physical exam as soon as possible, try feeding an ultra low fat diet such as boiled skinless chicken and rice and continue with the pedialyte in the meantime

It sounds like seizure activity to me based on your description. I suggest you monitor him closely and if it happens again try to video the episode with your phone so you can show your vet. Some dogs have one seizure and then never again. Some have one and then start having them very frequently. Some have one and then have them infrequently. I would not be concerned necessarily with one episode but if it happens again you need to speak to your vet about a work-up to try and figure out the underlying cause of the seizures. Yes, anxiety and aggression are very common in and around seizures. Ideally you would not move her, unless she is a position to fall and hurt herself. Placing soft bedding around her and turning lights and volume of tv etc down can also help. Frequent or prolonged seizures should be assessed for preventive treatment by your vet

His lack of appetite may be linked to the seizure episodes or of course it could be due to many other things such as pancreatitis, gastroenteritis, inflammatory bowel disease, among many other possibilities. It seems like his seizures are not completely controlled at the moment. It would be a good idea to let your veterinarian know as other seizure medications can be added to his anti-seizure medication protocol. Some of the diagnostics that can be considered to work up the lack of appetite is bloodwork and abdominal imaging, among other diagnostics. Good luck and have a good day! I would be very concerned with Izzy having this many seizures in such a short period of time. Young, small breed dogs can suffer from a condition called a shunt. With this disease the liver is unable to filter out toxins like it normally would. When this happens and the levels of certain enzymes get too high they affect the brain and cause seizures. This happens more frequently after a meal. I would recommend having Izzy checked out by your vet. They will likely run a blood test to check her liver enzymes and a test called bile acids to see how well the liver is working. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this in your young pup! Hopefully you can get a diagnosis and start managing her seizures soon.

Tyler may have had a seizure. I do recommend bringing him into your vet’s for screening bloodwork to rule out severe liver/kidney issues that may cause seizures. If the episode happens again, keep him away from stairs and away from objects that he may hurt himself on during the seizure and stay away from his mouth to avoid being accidentally bitten. Vets generally do not start dogs on seizure medications unless they have had 2 or more seizures in a month or have a seizure lasting more than a few minutes. You can also inquire with your vet about a diet called Purina Neurocare that has helped many dogs with seizures/epilepsy. Good luck!

She is cute! Vomiting can cause a vasovagal response and the animal could have a syncopal episode (fainting) but I don't believe it would cause a seizure. Are you sure your dog is having a seizure and not just fainting? I know of dogs that vomiting because of the seizure but since you actually induced vomiting that doesn't make sense.
