My dog has seizures after vomiting. Is it a seizure or fainting?

Dogs can collapse and faint because of vomiting. This is a reflex when vomiting process is stimulating a nerve that slows down the heart rate and dogs may faint as a result of that. The recovery is usually rapid and the dog is back on the feet within seconds. If that what has happened to Aries, you can monitor him at home for the next 15-30 min. If it was only the reflex, he should be back to normal by now. If he is still staggering or looking confused please take him to your local vets as an emergency. Vomiting and balance problem can be related to ear infections, intoxication or even neurological diseases.

That's not normal at all, and it seems a bit severe to lose consciousness over indigestion. I supposed if Pisty was vomiting hard enough, it could trigger a vagal response and subsequent loss of consciousness. I'd take her into another vet for a second opinion.

Hello, sorry to hear about Fuzzy. It sounds like she may have had a seizure and may be continuing to have mild forms of seizures. If Fuzzy continues to have these signs, she should be seen by a veterinarian as she may need to have medications and diagnostics to determine why she is suddenly having these events. I'm so so sorry that Freddy is having these episodes. I am sure they are very scary. It is difficult to know whether he is having a fainting episode or a seizure. If you can, I would try to catch the episodes on video so that you can show your vet and maybe they can determine which one it was. Fainting can happen from heart disease, abnormal electrical activity of the heart, low blood pressure. Seizures can happen from epilepsy, brain tumor, infection around the brain or organ problems like liver disease, low blood sugar. Unfortunately it can take a lot of testing to figure out the cause so you can know how best to treat Freddy as there are very different treatments based on what the real problem is.

It sounds like seizure activity to me based on your description. I suggest you monitor him closely and if it happens again try to video the episode with your phone so you can show your vet. Some dogs have one seizure and then never again. Some have one and then start having them very frequently. Some have one and then have them infrequently. I would not be concerned necessarily with one episode but if it happens again you need to speak to your vet about a work-up to try and figure out the underlying cause of the seizures. Poor Oliver! He really needs to see a veterinarian as an examination, blood work, and imaging (like X-rays) will be necessary to determine the cause of seizures. Unfortunately cancer is a common cause of seizures in an older dog. Medication can be prescribed to reduce the seizure activity and to give Oliver a better quality of life. While toxins could cause vomiting there are many more common causes ranging from a bowel obstruction to intestinal parasites. An overdose of phenobarbital would not cause vomiting: I would expect to see sedation or difficulty vomiting. If she had a seizure that is atypical for her, or if her vomiting continues I would recommend taking her to the veterinarian later today. I would recommend withholding food until you can see the vet. A little water should be okay but don't let her gulp an entire bowl.
