My dog had a seizure. Is aggression normal and what should I do?

It sounds like your dog has unprovoked dog aggression, and because there isn't a trigger known for it, it's very hard to find a cause behind it. It could be he simply doesn't like something about your other dogs, and that makes him want to attack them. You have a couple of choices in this situation, one of which you probably will not like to hear. You can rehome to someone who doesn't have any other dogs. He will continue to attack your other dogs without provocation, and will likely end up seriously injuring one of them. You could also get hurt try to stop the fighting. If you don't want to rehome him, I would get into into training immediately with a professional behavioral expert. They may be able to help you with his aggression so he can live safely with your other dogs. You can ask your vet tomorrow for a referral to a behavioral expert.

I would be very concerned with Izzy having this many seizures in such a short period of time. Young, small breed dogs can suffer from a condition called a shunt. With this disease the liver is unable to filter out toxins like it normally would. When this happens and the levels of certain enzymes get too high they affect the brain and cause seizures. This happens more frequently after a meal. I would recommend having Izzy checked out by your vet. They will likely run a blood test to check her liver enzymes and a test called bile acids to see how well the liver is working. I'm sorry you are having to deal with this in your young pup! Hopefully you can get a diagnosis and start managing her seizures soon.

Aggression, altered behavior and disorientation are all common signs of seizure recovery. Not all seizures are epilepsy however and continued monitoring for future seizure events is recommended in order to determine any pattern and triggers, it is possible he may never again have another fit

Poor Bo. It is likely he is sensing the seizure and seeing it happen is causing him a lot of distress. Either because he doesn't quite understand what is going on (IE your other dog is acting oddly), or he is very concerned. If a seizure does happen, it is best to separate the dogs until the seizure is over and your dog has rested, to avoid any accidental injury. If you are not there to monitor them (IE away from the home), keeping them crated or in different rooms may help prevent an injury if a seizure occurs while you are away.

I'm so sorry about your dog. I know this is a very scary time. There are multiple causes of seizures. I'm not sure how old your dog is, but in dogs under 5 years old who are completely normal in between seizure episodes, epilepsy is the primary cause of seizures. In older dogs it could be inflammation, a brain tumor, and infection or problems with the organs (particularly the liver). I always recommend blood work first to look for any problems there. If the blood work is normal, the next step is to evaluate the brain by doing an MRI. If blood work has not been done, I would highly recommend it. If problems are found in the blood work, then you should treat that. If everything is normal in the blood work, I would recommend starting seizure medication. Some dogs will have seizures very infrequently like your dog started out. Those dogs don't usually need medication. But when they become more frequent and are clustering (multiple in a 24 hours period) then I would definitely recommend medication at this point. There are multiple different seizure medications to choose from, so talk to your veterinarian about that. Many times the seizures will be manageable with medications, but it takes consistent medication multiple times per day and blood rechecks for the drug levels. Honestly, some dogs will be very difficult or impossible to control and will continue to have seizures despite being on multiple medications. So to answer your question, yes, there is something you can do to help your pet and based on the number of seizures he is now having, he needs to be put on medication. I hope this helps!
