Why is my 3-month-old puppy having seizures, vomiting, and aggression?

I am so sorry that your pet is having weird episodes of what sounds like a possible seizure and now bloody urine. I am not sure if your vet tested her urine to confirm that she also has a UTI, but I assume that is the case since antibiotics were given. I would be concerned about any underlying imbalances that can lead to seizures such as a liver shunt, so bloodwork analysis would be the next best step for Winter. If she does have an underlying condition like a liver shunt, then this should be treated for in order to manage both her condition and also her seizures. Some pets have idiopathic (no underlying cause) for seizures, but due to her young age, I am highly suspicious of a congenital cause. I hope that you are able to get to the bottom of things soon! Poor Abby! She could have idiopathic epilepsy, an infection, inflammation, kidney disease, liver disease, electrolyte abnormality, endocrine disease, toxin, or a brain tumor. She really needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat the problem. If she has idiopathic epilepsy than your vet can prescribe an anti-convulsant to help control the seizures.

Usually small breed dogs require to be fed throughout the day every 6 hours or so. However, this could also be due to something else like a toxicity of some kind. Seizures can be detrimental to a dog's health and this warrants an evaluation as soon as possible by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Good luck and have a great day!

If Rick had a seizure and is now vomiting, and hasn't seen a vet yet, it's time to visit one. It is possible he got into something making him ill, has an underlying illness causing his symptoms, or has a neurological or even congenital issue causing his seizures and now his vomiting. A complete workup from your vet including bloodwork, etc is a good idea to try and find the cause, especially in a puppy so young.

Hello. This is unfortunate for you and your puppy. Sometimes, very small toy breed puppies can not regulate their blood sugar and become hypoglycemic, have seizures and neurological issues. If your vet has not monitored his blood glucose- that needs to be done. This can be treated with a high caloric supplement called NutriCal that can be given throughout the day to keep his blood sugar levels in the normal range. The other thing to test for is a liver shunt. This is a congenital malformation of blood vessels that go to and from the liver. If your puppy has a shunt, their liver is usually smaller than normal and cannot perform its normal functions. This can cause toxins to build up and that causes seizures. This disorder can sometimes be corrected with surgery or managed with special diets and medication. If your veterinarian is uncomfortable moving forward , ask to be referred to an internal medicine specialist or even just another general practitioner with more experience with these issues. I’m sorry to hear about your pups! I recommend taking all of them to a vet right away. They could have gotten into something toxic while you were gone and might all need de-contamination therapy. That is usually meds to make them vomit and to soak up any medications left in the system. They may also needs medications to stop seizures and fluids to flush the toxins from their body. At their age, if they continue to vomit they will quickly dehydrate. I would go to an emergency vet right away. Good luck and kisses to the babies!

Yes, anxiety and aggression are very common in and around seizures. Ideally you would not move her, unless she is a position to fall and hurt herself. Placing soft bedding around her and turning lights and volume of tv etc down can also help. Frequent or prolonged seizures should be assessed for preventive treatment by your vet
