Why is my dog scooting and still getting ticks after treatment?

Hi, I hav provided my Dog with a bath: 2 "Good Scrub's" Of Flea Shampoo, A Flea & Tick Drop Treatment & A Flea & Tick Repellent Collar, A "Worming Tablet", I hav seen One Tick AFTER Treatment & today (Onli th once) My Dog ran her Bum across th floor, Has not done it since, Ani advice ??

Running her bum across the ground can be a sign of intestinal worms, but it can also be a sign of impacted anal sacs. Dogs whose bum is itchy or painful will scoot, but if Pocket has only done it once, her anus may have simply be itchy at that time. Should she continue to do it, however, I would take her into the vet to see if her anal sacs need to be expressed.

I'm not sure what brands of flea and tick repellent you used, so I can't advise if they are considered a good brand or not, but if the tick is dead, then you know the medication is working. Should you see more ticks and/or fleas, you may not have a good brand of repellent, and I would consider using another brand once this current treatment needs to be reapplied.

Why is my dog scooting? Is it worms or anal glands after Drontal?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! You are correct, Drontal is treatment for a parasite infection, not a preventative. Bravecto prevents from fleas and ticks as does the Scallibor collar. They probably don't need to have both, unless fleas and ticks are super bad where you live. You can give the 2nd dose of drontal that you have but I don't think your one dog is scooting from worms. The most common reason for scooting is impacted, full or infected anal glands. I recommend that you have a vet check them today or Monday. If they are impacted or infected sometimes they can rupture. I hope this helps! Good luck!

My dog's skin is irritated, itching, and dragging bottom after ticks.

Hello. It is very important to consistently use a good flea & tick product on your pet on a very regular basis because it may be that he has developed an allergy/sensitivity/infection to all the bites. Dragging his bottom could be an indication of impacted/infected anal glands, or the presence of intestinal parasites, especially tapeworms. It sounds like Stitch would benefit form a visit to his vet for a good evaluation of his skin & bottom. My dog is scooting and has raw spots on his tail. What should I do?

Tank may still have fleas unless you are doing monthly flea prevention. He may also have impacted anal sacs, which would itch or hurt and make him scoot. I suggest you have him examined by your vet again. As impacted anal glands will need to be manually emptied to resolve the problem (not a big deal). These raw itchy spots may also be a sign of an allergy.

My dog is scooting again after gland expression. Worms or glands?

Hello. You can certainly try to worm her, making sure you use a complete wormer like Safe Guard canine dewormer. Treat for 3 days in a row. If Tootsie continues to scoot, there is a possibility that her anal glands may be developing an infection, or she has allergies. Allergies can affect the mucous membranes, & rectal tissue can definitely be affected. So if she is still having issues several days after you finish the deworming protocol, do let your vet have another look at Tootsie. Hello. The next step here is to rule out allergies, which would definitely explain all of Bella's behaviors. It is not unusual for dogs to experience peri-rectal irritation & inflammation during an allergic flare-up. Talk to your veterinarian about a trial of one of the terrific antiallergy medications ( Apoquel or Cytopoint ). My dog keeps biting her butt and scooting. What should I do?

It may be that Nara has a problem with her anal sacs causing her to bite the area and scoot on her bottom. They may be impacted and need to be expressed. I'd have her seen by a vet for this behavior so she can get treated.
