My dog is scooting and biting her bottom. What can I put on the sore?

It may be that Nara has a problem with her anal sacs causing her to bite the area and scoot on her bottom. They may be impacted and need to be expressed. I'd have her seen by a vet for this behavior so she can get treated.

This may be a vaginitis, or bacterial infection of the folds around the vagina, as it apparently itches, if she is scooting. She could also have an anal gland problem, which would also explain the scooting, especially if she cannot reach her anus and just licks her vagina instead. Condition is uncomfortable at best, if not painful. You should schedule a vet appointment ASAP, as any of the OTC ointments should not be used without a proper diagnosis. They likely will not work, if this is infection.

Based on the location (it appears to be just to the side and just below the anus), an anal gland abscess may have ruptured. I doubt it’s an insect bite, but I can’t rule that out completely. It could also be another type of mass such as a tumor or a foreign body (such as a grass seed) that’s burrowed into the skin and caused an abscess. Regardless, your instincts are correct; this likely needs to be treated with antibiotics. Put an E -collar (cone of shame) on him and make an appointment with your vet ASAP. Hope that’s helpful! She may have rubbed against something or turn too fast and scrapped it on something Clan the area with soap and water and apply neosporin to it. You can also apply preparations h to help heal the area If it is not improving after a few days then see your vet for oral medication

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. I would recommend applying a topical medication such as zymox topical ointment to the affected area twice daily until resolved. This red and inflamed area is likely due to Cooper rubbing his bottom on the floor and should resolve, as long as he is not licking at the area. This ointment can be found online quite eaily. I wouldn't put anything on it, as she will just lick it off. Many human ointments contain ingredients that are not safe for dogs to ingest. You can clean the sore with warm water and antiseptic soap.

It depends on what it is exactly. if the sore appears to be red, inflamed, draining, or has discharge coming from it, I'd recommend holding off on the neosporin and seeing your veterinarian to have it fully evaluated. Lilly may need a prescription medication from her vet in order for it to properly heal.
