My dog is licking and scooting. Can I use Neosporin or hydrocortisone?

You can apply some Neosporin to it topically but honestly, most of the times this means that the gland is impacted or infected. I suggest you take her to your vet or groomer to have the glands checked/expressed. You can try the Neosporin for a couple days but if she continues to scoot or that sore looks worse at any time you should get her to your vet for an exam.

I would use a hydrocortisone cream or spray. You can either use a human product or one made for dogs. Doesn't really matter. The dog spray is better, in my opinion, because it dries faster and then you don't have to worry about them licking it. Not only the vaginal area is inflamed but it seems that the ventral abdomen is involved as well. She is probably itchy but these redness areas do not seem inflamed because of the rubbing. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). I actually would not recommend putting anything topical on it if he can potentially lick it off. Neosporin is not particularly toxic if a small amount is ingested but it won't have a chance to work if your dog is licking. I'd recommend putting an e-collar on him to keep him from licking. If there is a raw spot or other skin lesion it would be a good idea to have your vet take a look - he might need oral medications for it to resolve. I doubt he would need anesthesia unless there is a skin growth that is there.

Licking and biting excessively at the vulva is often a sign of a urinary tract infection, vaginitis, or certain types of allergies. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do at home to treat any of these problems effectively, so I would recommend taking her to the vet tomorrow for an exam if possible - she will probably need prescription antibiotics or other medication to treat the problem.

I am sorry to hear about Cujo. He may benefit from a topical ointment such as Animax which contains antibiotics but also steroids to help with inflammation. You can talk to your vet about getting this type of medication and it also may be a good idea to have your vet examine this area to ensure it is just irritation from the diarrhea and not something else such as an anal sac abscess or fistula. Your pup may also need an e-collar temporarily if he is licking at the area.

This red and inflamed area is likely due to Cooper rubbing his bottom on the floor and should resolve, as long as he is not licking at the area. This ointment can be found online quite eaily.
