My dog's scab was accidentally ripped off. What should I do?

I would hold pressure on it to stop the bleeding. Then you can use neosporin on it twice a day and make sure he isn't scratching it. If it isn't improving or it is getting worse, I would see your vet to make sure he doesn't need any oral antibiotics. I hope this helps!

I recommend that you continue to monitor Patriot for now. It looks like it is already healing nicely. If it continues to heal then there is no reason to have him evaluated by a veterinarian. If no improvement is noted in the next week or it worsens, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment. There is a good chance that he will be just fine. It looks like it was healing under the scab, however I am a little concerned about the area on the leg where this lesion is. THis is very close to the knee joint, which may mean that your dog had pain in this area and therefore was gnawing on it. I recommend you have this examined by your veterinarian a there may be a problem with his knee joint.

If another scab forms then I would make sure to not her scratch it off. You can try to keep her from it by using dog "shorts" you may find online to try to cover that area. Hopefully, this continues to heal without problems. If it becomes a recurrent issue or it develops a discharge with a foul odor concerning for an infection, have her evaluated by a veterinarian then. It looks like Scooby has ripped up part of the scab. I would gently wash the area with warm water and antiseptic soap, and put the Ecollar back on him. Keep them Ecollar on him until the area fully heals and there is no scab. Monitor the area, and if you see any signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus, warm to the touch), he will need to see a vet. Best of luck, I hope this helps!

Hello. If things are pretty static it is best just to leave the scab alone. Chances are at some point it will fall off. Most likely another scab will form & the process will repeat itself. Clean it with soap and water to get the scab off. From there you can apply neosporin to prevent the scab from reforming and to keep the infection under control if needed. If this does not help then you will need to see your vet for further treatment
