Dog scratched incision scab. When should I worry and see a vet?

My dog scratched the scabs on her incision should we go see our vet

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It still looks mostly healed so I think it would be fine to monitor for now. If another scab forms then I would make sure to not her scratch it off. You can try to keep her from it by using dog "shorts" you may find online to try to cover that area. Hopefully, this continues to heal without problems. If it becomes a recurrent issue or it develops a discharge with a foul odor concerning for an infection, have her evaluated by a veterinarian then. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. If the scab isn't bothering Irie, monitor the spot for a few more days to see if it is resolving on it's own. If it is not getting better, gets any larger, has a change in color, starts draining or is painful or itchy then I recommend taking her into the vet to get it looked at.

Hello. Right now everything looks very quiet, I see no evidence of infection or irritation. Just keep an eye on the area & if you see her chewing or licking at the area, it is best to see your vet. Right now, it looks fine. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

Hello. If things are pretty static it is best just to leave the scab alone. Chances are at some point it will fall off. Most likely another scab will form & the process will repeat itself. At least on this picture this looks very superficial and it is very likely that it will resolve on its own as long as the area is kept nice and clean. If you have noticed Dexter licking at it, an e-collar to prevent that would be ideal. Otherwise, this should continue getting better. If no major improvement in the next week or so, have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment which may include antibiotics. Good luck and have a great day!

My dog's spay incision is red and scabbing. Does it need vet care?

I definitely recommend having your vet take another look to make sure it's not getting infected, especially since that one spot looks dramatically different from the rest of the incision line (which appears to be healing nicely). My vaccinated dog got a minor scratch from a stray. What to do?

If it looks superficial and you cleaned it then it is likely to heal. However, it may not if it is deep or it is infected. My dog's healing wound turned black and crusty. Should I worry?

If this is dry and dark in color, this indicates it is likely healing. This spot will likely flake off once completely healed. Dog spay incision crusty after 9 days. Is this normal healing?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The incision is healing beautifully. I would not be concerned with the scabbing as it's just a normal part of healing. It is best to leave it alone - don't apply anything on it. Definitely leave the E-collar on a for a few more days minimum. We always tell people to leave it on for 10-14 days post-operatively and it always better to go more towards the 14 days mark. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

My dog's spay incision has dry blood. Is this normal healing?

Hi there! Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! it seems like Nyla has a small scab along her incision though it appears to be healing very well. I recommend that you avoid picking the scab as she will likely bleed if you do that and form another scab. This scab will likely fall off on its own once the entire incision, including the scab, is completely healed. I think she will be fine. Good luck!
