My dog ate salmon 12 days ago. Should salmon poisoning symptoms show?

It could be but it could also be that the salmon upset Gucci's stomach. I can give you a home remedy to see if that helps. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. Yes, if her food was recalled due to Salmonella contamination then she needs to see a vet. This is not something you should wait on. Salmonella can be extremely serious and can even cause death. If you catch it soon she will have a better chance at recovery. Hopefully it is just a bout of gastritis but it is better to be safe than sorry.

If you notice any of these symptoms you should take your dog to your local vets as an emergency. Typically, the symptoms of food intoxication commence within 2-6 hrs after ingestion. Inducing vomiting in dogs that ate bones is never recommended as it pose a risk of esophageal tear from the sharp bones. Salmonellosis is a potential risk after eating decomposing food, however, Salmonella infection is not common in dogs in general. Typically, the symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

I understand your concern, most salmon which is intended for human consumption is processed so as to remove any parasitic cysts present in the meat. Packaged smoked salmon is also likely to be heated as well during the smoking process. While most likely safe from an infectious standpoint, smoked salmon may have added flavors, salt, and natural fats which can cause gastrointestinal upset for Olivia when given in moderate quantities. Salmon is not toxic per se' but can, if not stored properly, carry some dangerous bacterial contaminations. There should not be anything to be worried about, especially if that salmon Luna ingested was stored properly and was for human consumption.

If he had the fish over 1-1.5hrs ago, making him vomit will not be beneficial. In that case, you need to monitor him at home for signs of vomiting, diarrhea, blood in stools, abdominal pain, twitching, being unsteady on legs. If you notice any of these symptoms, you should take him to your local vets right away.
