How to get my dog to stop pooping in tall grass due to snakes?

I have heard of decapitated snake heads still able to release poison into a person's hand. The biggest thing would be to try and locate the head so that Cherokee does not find it and try to chew on it. I would trim the lawn very short so that you are able to find the pieces more easily. Take him for a walk only in the areas you want. If it is painful for him he will go when needed and not hold it in. If it helps, sometimes you can collect his BM from where he went and place it in the garden and have him sniff that to start associating the two things together.

I would continue to carry him out onto the grass and keep him on a leash on the grass until he goes and then reward him with a treat. You might also consider purchasing a product called Fresh Patch, which is a patch of sod in a cardboard container that you place on the ground and is used as an area where Jasper can go to the bathroom in the house or on the patio. If you have a yard or garden you can leash walk him in the garden or yard until he poops and then bring him back in. If you do not have a yard or garden, you need to get puppy pads or artificial grass and try to entice him to poop on that.

Keep the grass short and pick all the mushrooms up first. YOu can try to take them to the front yard or a different/restricted area that can help. At a year old, they are very playful and have so much puppy in them, it is easy for them to get distracted outside and not go to the bathroom Take a good treat and reward with you, they will learn that when they go they immediately get food and a snack and it can become easier in the long run

It's possible there is a scent that he's picking up on, or he may be hearing a strange sound. Critters under the ground such as rodents that are more nocturnal may also be startling him, especially if this is during a nighttime potty break. Bringing him out on a leash so he doesn't chase or get hurt by anything, and bringing a high-value treat out with you may help get him more used to going out and being less afraid. Otherwise, checking for any signs of wildlife may be a good idea (and seeing if you can get the wildlife to move off elsewhere), or fencing an area for him to go in safely may help as well.

This can be a normal reaction to dogs who are used to pottying in the backyard, off leash. When you walk them and they’re on a leash they become anxious and nervous about going to the bathroom out in the open and on the leash. My best advice for you is to try and walk him frequently so he gets used to being on the leash. If he is able to hold his urine and bowel movements then it shouldn’t be a big issue. He will need to lease go to the bathroom every 10 to 12 hours. When you do walk him on the leash and he potties use lots of positive reinforcement like praise and treats to let him know you are proud of him and did a good job.
