How long until my backyard is safe for dogs after residual bug killer?

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Male | neutered | 50 lbs

My mom sprayed alot of bug killer over a large area in the backyard, how long until safe for dogs? I swear she used the whole can spraying so much on the ground lol. Then her and a couple other people were immediately walking all over the (mostly soil but some grass too) sprayed area and im not sure if that means they spread it around with their shoes too. All i know is that it's "residual" that "keeps killing for up to 8 weeks" Def not pet-friendly... What's best for my dogs here? Thank you

Hello. Most sprays are safe for pets once the spray has dried, or has been watered into the lawn. I would be sure there are no food or water bowls that might have been sprayed. Either toss them or wash in hot soapy water. The same goes for any chew toys out there. But generally, once a spray has dried, or the area has been watered down & allowed to dry, pets can roam freely, again. The only concerns would be if your dog eats a lot of grass, or finds something to chew on that was left out & sprayed, so keep an eye out for this. It might also be a good idea just to wipe paws off with a damp paper towel once they are ready to come back indoors. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.

In most cases, it should be safe to allow your cat out a full 24 hours after a product has been applied, & this may be the safest regardless of which product was used. Is it safe for my pets to be near me after I've used Deet bug spray?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I think it is fine if they sit on your lap after you come inside. Unless you saturate yourself and are still damp with spray they should be fine. Your pets can get sick if they lick to much of it. I hope this helps!

My dog touched a bug with bug spray, but didn't eat it. Is he safe?

For that reason, Chigger may be just fine. I would recommend that you watch him closely and if he does show symptoms such as decreased appetite, lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea and/or discomfort have him evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Otherwise, he is likely going to be ok. Best of luck!

My dog walked in a yard sprayed for bugs. What should I watch for?

Signs of potential toxicity in pets can include drooling, shaking, tremors, seizure, coma, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, changes to the pupils and more. Contact issues with pesticides can include issues such as redness, itching, or swelling at the site of contact. If you suspect Emma may have come into contact with these materials, you can use a washcloth or pet wipe to gently wipe down her paws and belly to remove any possible contact on them. If you suspect toxicity or see symptoms of illness, seeking veterinary care is best.

How long for Virbac Knockout spray to dry before puppy is safe?

I do not know if the manufacturer has an actual designated time where it is safe, probably because it largely depends on how much you are using and the size of the space in which it's being used. I would imagine that it is safe to return once the area is completely dry and the room has been completely ventilated for at least 30 minutes or more. If you want a more official response, Virbac might be able to tell you more directly.

It depends what spray you used, with most spray it should be fine after 12 hours but some products have longer effect in the environment, i recommend to read the cautions that needs to be taken on the spray label.
