Ringworm is typically treated with antifungal medication and medicated shampoos prescribed by your veterinarian. it would be best to speak with the vet that diagnosed the ringworm so that they can get you started on the correct shampoo and medication to help Chulo feel better.

As ringworm is extremely contagious to other pets and people, it is best to make sure to keep him separated from other pets until the ringworm is treated, and to thoroughly wash hands, clothing, bedding, etc to avoid the spread to yourself or other members of the family.

Oral antifungal medication will
definitely be required. The bathing is helpful, and decreases environmental contamination. There is also a “mousse” made by duoxo that you don’t have to rinse out- that may be an option if bathing is not. I would, however, be a little concerned about why he became so infected? Is something else going on internally that is weakening his immune system? I would recommend lab work to screen for other problems. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.

IF you think shadow has ringworm on his head I would recommend anti fungal baths and possibly an oral anti fungal depending on how severe the infection is. The best idea would be to take Shadow to a vet for confirmation and treatment. Ringworm is contagious to people so make sure you are washing your hands and if you detect an abnormal rash go directly to your doctor. How long should my puppy take ringworm medication before re-test?

Hi there! For ringworm we often treat for 30 days, depending on the veterinarian's choice and how bad the infection is. You will probably not be able to get a prescription without seeing a new doctor unless you can get you're other doctor to fax a previous prescription. If they did not prescribe you anymore, your doctor may want to see if your puppy improves with little treatment. You will have to get ahold of the original prescription before you can do anything else unless you want to see another dr (probably ER on the weekends) to see if the doctor thinks you need more.

Ringworm is a fungal infection that is highly contagious and can spread if it keeps getting messed with. It is also usually treated with topical medications and shampoos. It would be best to talk with your vet about getting a prescription shampoo to treat the ringworm with, and to place an Elizabethan (cone) collar on Baby to keep her from pawing at the spot and irritating it more. Be sure to also thoroughly wash hands and clothing after handling her, and keep her separated from other pets until healed.

My dog has peeling skin circles. Could it be ringworm? What to do?

Circular peeling areas might be an indication of ring worm, a fungal infection that can be spread to other animals as well as people. The most common treatment is an antifungal drug called clotrimazole that is used topically. It is available in sprays and creams. Treat the area carefully and use gloves as not to risk spreading the infection elsewhere. Formulations are also available through your veterinarian. The vet would be able to obtain samples from the affected region to determine if ring worm is in fact the cause of what you are seeing.
