Does my dog need Revolution AND K9 Advantix II for flea/tick?

Hi yes you can use both treatments on Daphne but i suggest separating the application by two weeks. You can also consider using a product like Proheart6 - an injectable heartworm prevention given at the vet hospital that lasts for 6mths. I find that revolution works well for fleas, but doesn't cover all types of ticks. Hope this helps!

Revolution does not protect against fleas, so I'd recommend using a medication such as Nexgard which protects against fleas and ticks (including American dog ticks). It's a monthly oral flea treatment program. That way, you don't need to combine two medications to give Candy protection against fleas and ticks. Typically, I do not recommend using two different flea treatment programs togethers. The American dog tick can spread diseases such as Rocky Mountain spotted fever and Tularemia. Congratulations on your new dog! I like Revolution if you are looking for a topical product. It consistently works well and is well tolerated. If you like the idea of an oral product better, I like Trifexis (it’s another all in one product). Sometimes though the pets can smell the Trifexis and they won’t eat it. In that instance, I like Simparica and Interceptor. My personal preference is oral products. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.

Those two products are usually fine to use together. However in some very sensitive dogs that could cause muscle tremors and shaking. I would wait at least 2-3 days after applying the Revolution before placing a collar on Cadbury. If he has any tremors/shaking remove the collar and alert your veterinarian. If revolution is not working for your flea/tick control you could consider adding on nexguard which is an oral flea and tick medication or even a Seresto collar.

While there's technically no reason that these two medications can't be used together, they are both heartworm preventatives - so there's quite a bit over overlap in what they do, and both should not be needed at the same time. If your pup is currently on Interceptor and you want to add a second medication to cover fleas, I would recommend using something like Nexgard or Bravecto - these are flea/tick meds only, so you wouldn't be treating her unnecessarily for heartworms with two different meds.

Generally, we at Pet Coach recommend using one flea and tick medication. I would recommend only using the K9 advantix on Pistol. It kills fleas, repels fleas, kills flea egg and larvae, kills ticks, repels ticks, and kills and/or repels mosquitoes. Simparica only kills fleas and ticks. You will get everything you need for Pistol's protection with the K9 advantix. I hope this helps!

Bravecto and Advantix contain different drugs that work in different ways - it is safe to give the two together. You should also be sure that Zeke is on a heartworm preventative - this is the main disease in dogs that is spread through mosquitoes.
