My dog has red spots in ear, scratching. How to help until vet?

Poor Bowser! The only concern I have is that he may have something stuck deeper into the canal. You can try some Benadryl twice a day to see if this helps his itching. See link below. If not, I would have your vet take a look deeper into his ear canals to make sure nothing is stuck and there isn't an infection deeper. Poor gizmo. The best thing you can do is to buy a dog ear cleaner and try to clean it every day to see if it improves. You can also give Benadryl twice a day to help with itching. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Poor Snickers! Ultimately he will be okay until tomorrow, I am glad he is getting seen in the short term. I wouldn't recommend giving him any human medications because your Vet may prescribe steroids which can not be combined with things like aspirin. You can try some benadryl to see if it relieves the itch and calms him. Otherwise I would hold tight for a day. Hi there, It does look like your dog is having an allergic reaction to something. Typically dogs are allergic to their environment or to a food. With the redness of the eyes and ears, it would be best to go to your vet so they can test for secondary infection and prescribe medications to clear things up. You can try rinsing the ears with a 50:50 solution of white vinegar and water and wipe them out with cotton balls, but a vet visit would be ideal. I'm not sure how much your dog weighs to give you a benadryl dose, if you want to try that please submit another question with this info. Poor Bugsy. Having him seen by a vet tomorrow is a good idea. Do not try any home remedies you may find in the internet, a lot of them are frankly dangerous! Just keep him warm and comfortable, make sure he is fed, and kept quiet.

Poor guy. Unfortunately you will need to take him to your vet to get his ear infection treated, since there are no over the counter ear products available for dogs. He also likely has skin allergies which are best treated with allergy medication (i.e. Apoquel) through your vet as well. Until you can get him seen, you can try giving him over the counter pet formulated fish oils, which are a natural anti-inflammatory for the skin, daily to help somewhat. Also you can bathe him with an over the counter pet formulated shampoo that is either aloe based or oatmeal based. Hi there. Unfortunately, these photos are very blurry, so I can't really see much. But, if he is scratching his ear until it bleeds, it's likely that he has an ear infection - this is a common problem in dogs. He will need prescription ear meds from your veterinarian to treat the infection, so I would recommend taking him in tomorrow for an exam. In the meantime, you can try cleaning his ears with an over-the-counter ear flush labeled for dogs such as Mal-Acetic or Epi-Otic. This will not treat the underlying infection, but may help to make him a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.
