My puppy has red spots, dry skin, and breathing issues. Is it serious?

I hate to hear that Roo is having such a bad run. Unfortunately based upon the symptoms you describe, I think another vet visit is in order. The panting can indicate distress and since she can't talk, it's important to be safe and have a physical exam preformed. Her skin issues are likely related to an underlying cause. At her age, parasites or a food allergy are most common. Environmental allergy is more common than food allergy but usually affects older dogs. Address this current issue first. Then I recommend to discuss using a product such as Simaprica to rule out parasites and feeding her a diet such as Royal Canin Hydrolyzed protein for a food trial to know if it's a food allergy. The doctor should double check whatever food they choose for Roo that it is formulated to support the growth of a puppy. I hope this helps to point you in the right direction. Poor Volt! The red lesion in the picture could be a result of a skin infection from underlying allergies (to fleas, food or the environment), ringworm or mange. If Volt is highly uncomfortable from the skin lesions, this could cause him to breathe slightly faster, but as you mention, heat can do the same in some cases. If Volt seems to be having difficulty breathing, is taking more than 35-40 breaths per minute while resting (respiratory rate is often higher while active and excited), or is unable to rest, he will need an urgent vet visit today. Otherwise, you can try bathing him in a gentle oatmeal-based dog shampoo to try to ease any mild skin discomfort and take him to the vet tomorrow for evaluation. Hello. This puppy needs medical attention. She appears to have a serious skin condition and should have a skin scrape to check for mange. If she is potbellied and has low energy, she may have other internal parasites. Some intestinal parasites can cause anemia as well as gastrointestinal problems. Anemia is a low red blood cell count which causes weakness and lack of energy. Please have her examined, tested for parasites-both internal and external- and given the appropriate treatments. Scratching and red spots can be caused by various reasons such as fleas, mites ,fungal infection, bacterial infection and allergies. the first 4 needs to be ruled out before we start treating for allergies. in order to do that first de-flea Timmy with a high quality flea treatment such as advantage spot on, if it doesn't help - take him to the vet in order to check for/treat the other possibilities. If everything is ruled out, then an allergy treatment can be started. Usually an hypoallergenic food is a good way to start together with anti histamines. if it doesn't help - the best solution is a medication called Apoquel which treats allergies with great success and without side effects.

I am so sorry Pretty Girl is going through this. On her belly it looks like a little skin infection but on her side it looks like hives. If this just started today I would take her to an emergency veterinarian for a possible allergic reaction. If this has been going on for a few days call your regular veterinarian tomorrow. If you wait then during the night if the bumps that look like hives get worse, her face swells or she has difficulty breathing then take her to an emergency veterinarian asap. Poor Nala! There are a number of things that could cause red spots on her stomach. If they are very small and look like pimples all over her belly, this is a common sign of a bacterial skin infection called pyoderma. If it's more of a flat, red rash, this is more likely to be an allergic reaction or an area of irritated skin, which could be due to sitting in urine if she does this for long periods. I would recommend having her examined by a vet when you can, to determine what is causing the spots - she may need prescription antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medication to treat the problem, depending on the diagnosis.

This is likely a condition known as impetigo; which is a bacterial infection of the skin. This is common in puppies and is often self-limiting (will go away on its own). You can help this along by washing the belly daily with a medicated shampoo (can find this at the pet store). Lightly scrub the area with a wash cloth for five minutes each time and repeat the bath daily until the belly appears normal again. If the belly starts to look worse, or is not clearing up after two weeks, then it's best to take Rocco to your vet for an evaluation and further treatment.
