What are these red spots on my puppy's tummy? Is it serious?

My puppy has like red spots on her tummy. My boyfriend says it's a rash because she sits in her pee sometimes but since technically this is my first dog, I'm freaking out.

Poor Nala! There are a number of things that could cause red spots on her stomach. If they are very small and look like pimples all over her belly, this is a common sign of a bacterial skin infection called pyoderma. If it's more of a flat, red rash, this is more likely to be an allergic reaction or an area of irritated skin, which could be due to sitting in urine if she does this for long periods. I would recommend having her examined by a vet when you can, to determine what is causing the spots - she may need prescription antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medication to treat the problem, depending on the diagnosis.

This is a fairly common issue with young dogs and often referred to as puppy pyoderma. The dogs will get a small skin infection in the inguinal region. I recommend a medicated shampoo 2 time a week and an anti histamine. If this does not cause it to resolve you will need to take her to a vet for antibiotics. I would monitor her skin closely and if it looks worse or has any hair loss I would recommend taking her to the vet to evaluate for parasites and other skin issues.

This could be something called puppy pyoderma, which is the rough equivalent to acne in people. Keep an eye on it and as long as it stays mild there's nothing to worry about it, most puppies outgrow it as they mature. If it does get worse, if he gets itchy, starts licking and/or chewing, then get him in to see your vet since these cases occasionally need medical intervention to heal up more quickly.

Puppies can get mild bacterial skin infections on their tummies, and this may be what you're describing. Make an appointment with Daisy's vet to get it checked out if more pustules occur, as she may need an antibacterial skin cream to help them resolve.

It is possible that this is a bacterial skin infection called impetigo/puppy pyoderma that is relatively common in puppies. Another possible problem is that Bella may actually have some blackheads/irritated skin on her belly. With either of these conditions if the spots are mild and Bella is not bothered by them you could try gently cleaning them with a gentle cleanser decided for us in dogs. If Bella is scratching/rubbing at the spots or there is a colored/odorous discharge I would recommend having Bella seen by your veterinarian so that they can further examine the spots and determine the need for another treatments. This is likely a condition known as impetigo; which is a bacterial infection of the skin. This is common in puppies and is often self-limiting (will go away on its own). You can help this along by washing the belly daily with a medicated shampoo (can find this at the pet store). Lightly scrub the area with a wash cloth for five minutes each time and repeat the bath daily until the belly appears normal again. If the belly starts to look worse, or is not clearing up after two weeks, then it's best to take Rocco to your vet for an evaluation and further treatment. Hi, and thanks for your question. This could be due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics).
