Why does my 6-month puppy have red dots and bumps on her skin?

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 6 months and 22 days old

My 6 mouth old puppy has red dots all over her stomach & she also has bumps that almost look like blisters or pimples on her body. If you look at her back her fur looks like it has lumps in it from the bumps. I would like to know what would cause this & how I can make it better for her.

I am so sorry Pretty Girl is going through this.

On her belly it looks like a little skin infection but on her side it looks like hives.

If this just started today I would take her to an emergency veterinarian for a possible allergic reaction.

If this has been going on for a few days call your regular veterinarian tomorrow.

If you wait then during the night if the bumps that look like hives get worse, her face swells or she has difficulty breathing then take her to an emergency veterinarian asap.

She could have a skin infection or an allergic reaction. Since they keep appearing, she should be examined by a vet for treatment. She may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, or corticosteroid to help treat.

This sounds quite uncomfortable for Raja Lue Who! One of the most common causes of persistent itching with red bumps is a skin infection, most often caused by underlying allergies to fleas, food or the environment. Other possible issues include ringworm or mange. Skin infections can develop due to persistent scratching, which only becomes more itchy, leading to more scratching, worsening the infection. At this point, make sure that Raja is receiving a high quality flea preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or Advantix). You can also try bathing her in a soothing oatmeal dog shampoo, but I doubt that this will cause a significant improvement in her itching. You should take her to the vet for an exam because skin infections require oral antibiotics and/or medicated shampoos. Depending upon the appearance of her skin, the vet may also talk about skin scrapes or fungal cultures to rule out the presence of mange or ringworm. I hope that she's feeling better soon!

He could have a skin infection or an allergic dermatitis. You could bathe him with a medicated dog shampoo and see if that helps. If not, he should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treat the problem. He may need an antibiotic, anti-histamine, and/or corticosteroid to help.

Poor Odyssi! The red pimple-like lesions that you are seeing could be related to a skin infection or contact reaction to insect bites (mosquitoes, fleas, etc.). A trip to the vet is in order to further assess these lesions, as antibiotics or anti-inflammatory medications are likely needed. At this point, make sure that she is receiving a high quality flea and tick preventative (such as Nexgard, Bravecto or Advantix) regularly. You can also bathe her in a gentle oatmeal-based shampoo (unless you are using topical flea control). If Odyssi seems overly itchy, put an e-collar (cone) on her until her vet appointment. My puppy has spreading bumps, Benadryl not helping. What to do?

The Benadryl should help if she’s itchy but she needs to see a vet to determine if it’s an infection and get her some oral antibiotics if needed. Good luck and kisses to Baby!

Help! My puppy has widespread scaly, pus-filled skin bumps.

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly due to allergies. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

My dog has small red bumps, scabs, or pimples on skin. What is it?

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I can definitely see the small red bumps your are referring to, and agree that they appear scabbed over. This can be caused by a localized skin infection, an infestation with mites or fleas, or even an allergic reaction. It is likely that these conditions may be causing Hump to be itchy, and she may be having these scabs from scratching. A vet can perform some tests including blood work, and taking some samples from Hump's skin to figure out what is going on and prescribe an appropriate treatment plan. I hope this helps!
