My dog's penis sheath is red after grooming. How to treat at home?

Pet's info: Dog | Standard Schnauzer | Male | unneutered | 2 years and 11 months old

My dogs penis sheath is red and looks irritated also looks swollen and raw. There is no discharge that I can see,he shows no sign of pain but does lick the area so we have a cone on him to stop him from irritating it further.this happened once before from a bad grooming experience and after a vet visit and some meds he was fine. We just got him groomed and it's showing the same signs again. What is the cause of this and how can we treat this at home so I know my dog is comfortable and healthy

It is possible he is sensitive to shampoos or if the area was shaved he may have developed 'clipper rash' - very careful grooming in this area will be important to reduce the risk of it happening again. Keeping the cone on for a few days and gently bathing the area in cool water will help - I would not recommend any ointments or creams be applied as they may irritate the area further

Not really, as long as he is not bothered by it and as long as it is not bleeding i would avoid touching the area, it should heal within a few days if he is not licking it constantly. if it does not resolve within a few days you should take Lewi to your vet in order to get it checked and treated.

Place an e-collar (cone) on Per y to prevent further licking. It is possible his so n was irritated by the grooming or clippers. The collar may be enough to allow healing/recovery but if the irritation worsens or you see bleeding or discharge and smell an odor then have him examined by your veterinarian.

Dog's vulva red and irritated after grooming. How to soothe it?

My guess is that she got some razor burn around the vulva. Do you have any hydrocortisone cream? If so, I would use that. Just put a thin layer on the vulva (not inside) twice a day. Do not let her lick it off. If she is licking you will need to get her a cone collar to wear. If you don't have any hydrocortisone cream you can get some at any drugstore. I recommend getting 0.5%. These ones that are made for dogs would be best. You can get them at Petco. My dog's private area is swollen after groomer nicked him. Help!

This looks serious enough to take Grayson to a veterinarian. Try to see your veterinarian tomorrow, or take him to a pet ER. This looks seriously infected/inflamed and Grayson will need pain medicine and likely a prescription antibiotic to alleviate the swelling and infection. Make sure he cannot lick his prepuce and penis (either with an e-collar or a snug fitting t-shirt) as licking will introduce more bacteria.

My dog has a raw, painful penis bump after grooming. What to do?

Hello, and thank you for your question. The photo is very helpful. It looks like a local area of inflammation due to a skin infection of the prepuce. I would recommend getting it checked out by the vet within the next 24 hours, who can prescribe the appropriate antibiotics to treat the infection. They can also examine more closely to see if there is an underlying cause, such as a foreign body in the prepuce that is causing irritation. In the meantime, I would suggest putting an e-collar (cone) over Ollie's head to prevent him from licking and further traumatizing the area. I hope this helps, and that Ollie feels better soon!

My dog's sheath is discolored and inflamed. What should I do?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the pictures it appears as though chewy has a lot of inflammation in this area. I would suspect he has been chewing and licking this area and has caused a hotspot (moist dermatitis). I would recommend placing a rigid plastic cone around the neck to prevent him from licking this area. I would also recommend applying s topical medication such as zymox topical ointment and apply to the area until resolved. You can find this ointment easily online. If the area does not heal or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this for further testing and treatment recommendations. Why does my dog keep licking his swollen penis after grooming?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Diesel. I suspect that his skin of his prepuce is irritated from the recent grooming appointment. You can start by bathing that area with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. Hi. Yes this is.most likley a harmless inicdent that probly wont happen again. I would recommend getting an evollar cone to have him wear for a.couple days to keep him from licking. I would also recommend placing a small amount of lube.or vaseline or ky jelly in the rip of that prepuce to lube it. If it gets worse at all get him in. Good luck
