My dog's private area is swollen after groomer nicked him. Help!

You can start by bathing that area with a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner such as an oatmeal or fatty acid based formula to soothe the skin. This is, unfortunately, a pretty serious problem. I would say it is an emergency and he should be seen right away. If the tissue gets too compromised it may need to be amputated. I suggest you put some vaseline or other lubricant on it right away and then get him to the vet.

Was there any chance Gunter had trauma to that area such as being hit by a car or laying on hot pavement at some point. That is a typical lesion comparable to road rash or an abrasion of some sort. The swelling may be edema or a possible hernia in the muscle wall causing the swelling if there was trauma. Because a hernia can be life threatening it is best if he is seen by a vet to check for that. You can keep the area clean with cool water and apply an antibiotic cream to help until you can get him seen. Make sure you monitor for urination since the swelling is close to his prepuce and penis.

This is a serious edematous swelling and needs to be seen by a veterinarian today. This may be located in the preputial mucous membrane, or possibly the tip of the penis. Unfortunately I cannot determine this from the photo. Please take Tyson to a veterinarian or PetER today. You may want to put some vaseline on the swelling to keep it from drying out.

Thank you for providing pictures of your dog's penis! That is not normal at all, and he could have a severe infection or may have injured his penis. I'm very concerned by the appearance of it, especially the purplish bruised area. It looks very swollen, and in my opinion he needs veterinary care now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website.

Poor Luke! I worry he has some edema (swelling) and possibly an infection in that area. If he isn’t overweight and he doesn’t normal have this “pouch” around his prepuce then I would try to get him seen by a vet. The vet will be able to ensure his penis looks okay and there is no loss of circulation and see if he needs some anti-inflammatories and antibiotics to help it go down. I hope this helps!

Ouch! Poor Dylan! This looks like a little local infection that he has been licking. I would place an e-collar I him to prevent licking. You can clean it with mild soap and water. And I would also put some neosporin on it twice a day. If it is not improving in the next day or two then I would definitely take him in to see your veterinarian for an exam. Your vet will be able to prescribe some oral anabiotics and some stronger topical medicine if needed. If at any point he is not eating or is lethargic then I would also take him to your vet.
