My dog's penis is irritated after grooming. How can I help him?

It is possible he is sensitive to shampoos or if the area was shaved he may have developed 'clipper rash' - very careful grooming in this area will be important to reduce the risk of it happening again. Keeping the cone on for a few days and gently bathing the area in cool water will help - I would not recommend any ointments or creams be applied as they may irritate the area further

My guess is that she got some razor burn around the vulva. Do you have any hydrocortisone cream? If so, I would use that. Just put a thin layer on the vulva (not inside) twice a day. Do not let her lick it off. If she is licking you will need to get her a cone collar to wear. If you don't have any hydrocortisone cream you can get some at any drugstore. I recommend getting 0.5%. These ones that are made for dogs would be best. You can get them at Petco. Poor guy. He must have very sensitive skin and is having a hypersensitivity reaction in that area. I would recommend doing a gentle cleanse of his testicles with a mild soap (i.e Dove or oatmeal based shampoo) and warm water, letting it air dry, and then applying a topical soothing spray (i.e. Hydrocortisone spray) from your local pet store. You can also apply a thin layer of Neosporin if he tolerates it to help prevent secondary infections. Place an e-collar (cone) over him to prevent him from licking it further and see if this resolves in a few days. If not, then he may need additional treatment (i..e steroid shot +/- medicated ointments) from your local vet.

I would suspect he has been chewing and licking this area and has caused a hotspot (moist dermatitis). I would recommend placing a rigid plastic cone around the neck to prevent him from licking this area. I would also recommend applying s topical medication such as zymox topical ointment and apply to the area until resolved. You can find this ointment easily online. If the area does not heal or worsens, I would recommend having a veterinarian take a look at this for further testing and treatment recommendations. I would recommend getting it checked out by the vet within the next 24 hours, who can prescribe the appropriate antibiotics to treat the infection. They can also examine more closely to see if there is an underlying cause, such as a foreign body in the prepuce that is causing irritation. The first thing you need to do is put a cone collar on him to keep him from continuing to lick the skin. He has scrotal dermatitis (an infection of the scrotal skin) and no matter what you use to treat It with, if he just continues to lick, it will not get better. So, get the cone collar ASAP and then apply this Vetericyn spray (linked below) to the affected area 2-3 times per day.
