My dog has red, irritated lips. Could it be an allergy or infection?

Is there anything she could have chewed on to cause that inflammation in the corners, mainly electrical cords? It seems very raw and blistered but does not appear infected by that picture. All you can do is clean the area with soap and water as any other topicals will just get ingested. If it is not better in a day or so take her to your vet for an exam to see why it is not clearing

Poor guy! Your can try this: It won’t hurt him if he licks it off. However, if it’s not improving in 5 days or so, I would recommend that you schedule a recheck with your vet. I’m worried he may need antibiotics, as he may have a deep skin infection. If it continues to be a problem , a skin biopsy may be recommended. Thanks for asking PetCoach!

This redness could be related to seasonal allergies as well, and it's possible that Dakota has a secondary skin infection. Mites or even fungal disease could cause symptoms like this as well. I would recommend seeing your veterinarian to see if they think antibiotics or other medications may be necessary.

I would recommend keeping the area clean and dry, for now. If it's not getting better after 3-5 days, I'd recommend a vet visit to see if she needs most medicated wipes. It's common for young dogs to get superficial bacterial infections around their lips, which usually doesn't require oral antibiotics, but may require a topical treatment. I hope that helps! This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths. Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching. Hello, sorry to hear about Moose. It looks like that may be a contact allergy from rubbing his nose and mouth on something that irritated him. You can wipe the area with a damp cloth and make sure it is not getting wider or that Moose is not rubbing his face. If you not any discharge, pain, swelling, or progressive redness and hair loss then have him evaluated by his veterinarian sooner. Otherwise, it should begin to get better within 3-5 days.
