My pregnant dog has green eye discharge. Are eye drops safe for her?

My pregnant dog woke up this morning with green gookies in her eyes... I was going to put Vertropolycin in then but I heard it could hurt her pregnancy

Because eye concerns with dogs, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in dogs I would have her examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian.
Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. For example if a corneal ulcer is present in addition to an infection. This is an especially important point while Isabeau is pregnant, and vetroplolycin may not be the appropriate medication for the precise issue with her eyes or while she is pregnant.

I am so sorry to hear that Luna is experiencing these problems with her eye. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Luna to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Luna to scratch or rub her eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Green discharge is usually indicative of an infection, and closing her eyes usually means it is also painful.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Luna. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. If the eye discharge is green, I worry that she has a bacterial infection. This can occur secondary to allergies, a corneal ulcer or another issue. The doctor will examine both of her eyes and may perform some eye testing. Based on these results, treatment can be started. I recommend to have Meeka examined by her veterinarian. Green/yellow discharge indicates a bacterial infection. If it has been present for more than a few days, it's likely she needs some antibiotics to clear the infection. Make sure to protect the eye from rubbing. She may need to wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Best of luck.
