My puppy's eyes are red after using drops. What should I do?

This does look red and inflamed but may be associated with a cherry eye. Cold compresses, flushing with cooled boiled water and gentle massage of the corner of the eye can help to reduce mild cases but surgical repair is required in persistent cases.

Your dog is not in danger of going blind but you should let the drops a little longer to take effect and you should put an e-collar around it's neck to prevent him from pawing the eyes as he can injure himself. the cause for the irritation is pretty clear as you mentioned he just had a bath.

However, there are some other diseases that really need a very thorough evaluation of the eye to diagnose. I think that if he has not improved on the current therapy, it may be a good idea to check in with your veterinarian. If they are concerned based on their knowledge of his case, they could consider having you consult with a veterinary ophthalmologist. It's possible that she may need medication. If you can, wipe the area clean with a warm wet cloth. Your local Veterinarian may prescribe an ointment or drops after performing an examination. It's possible that Princess may have an ulcer, injury, or disease causing her discomfort.

Bleu has such pretty eyes!! I would recommend a recheck with your vet now that some of the swelling and redness has resolved. There may be something additional going on that needs to be addressed, or perhaps she needs to receive a different type of eye drops. Be sure and ask your veterinarian to take a close look at Bleu’s eyelids-sometimes, especially in young growing dogs, the lower (and occasionally upper) eyelid can roll onwards and irritate the surface of the eye-This is called entropion and can require surgery to correct. You could rinse his eye out with an eye wash or some artificial tears, like GenTeal drops. If his signs continue then he needs to be examined by a vet to determine the cause. He could have an infection, scratch, ulcer, or foreign material in his eye and your vet can stain his eye to evaluate his cornea for damage. He may need an antibiotic eye drop and other medications to treat. Hope he feels better soon!

I am sorry to hear this! His eye does look very irritated- and the area around his eye that has a 'cobblestone' appearance suggests that he has some chronic irritation. I would want to rule out a few things that cause these signs including stray eyelashes that are 'ingrown', eyelid abnormalities, allergies and mites. The good news is that most of these things can be treated successfully! I would bring him in and have a few eye tests done and have them closely examined with magnification (sometimes an ophthalmologist is recommended) and see what kind of treatment plan is needed. Until you can bring him in, over the counter lubricating eye drops may bring some short term relief. I hope this helps!
