Poor Oreo! Bloodshot eyes and discharge (especially yellow or green discharge) or "eye boogers" are usually signs of an eye infection. Oreo will need prescription eye drops to treat the infection, so I would recommend taking him to the vet to have this checked as soon as you are able to.

In the meantime, you can try rinsing his eyes with plain saline eye wash and using a warm washcloth to gently wipe away any discharge as often as needed. This will not treat the underlying problem, but may help to make Oreo a bit more comfortable until you are able to see the vet.

Hello and thank your for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It is most likely eye infection or irritation. Please, clean the eyes with boiled warm water and cotton buds 3-4 times a day. You can apply soothing eye drops too (human drops will be fine). If after 24-48hrs there is no improvement, you should take Sadie to your local vets.

Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I'm sorry that Oreo isn't feeling well. I'm not sure what the underlying issue with his eye is, but recommend seeing a vet as soon as possible because eye issues can quickly turn into emergencies and be very painful. If left untreated, they can even result in loss of the eye. In the meantime, you can get Oreo an E-collar or "cone" to prevent him from scratching/rubbing the eye and causing further trauma. I hope this helps and that all is well with Oreo!

Oreo seems to have an infection. We cannot rule out a corneal ulcer just by looking at the picture. Cats often have upper respiratory tract infection, and develop conjunctivitis and I discharge because of it. Take Oreo to your veterinarian for a detailed exam that possibly will include staining the cornea to rule out ulcers. I forsee you will have to give eye meds at least twice a day or more depending on the physical findings. Poor Oreo! If he's had a sudden change in diet, that could be the cause of his diarrhea, but it could also be due to a GI illness, eating something rotten, or a foreign body. The discharge from his eye is indicative of an eye infection. He will need to see a vet for these problems. The eye infection has to be treated by a vet, as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Call his vet today to make an appointment so his problems can be diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

My dog has eye boogers. What causes them and when to see a vet?

Dogs can get eye infections, allergies that lead to infections, scratches on the cornea and dry eye. These will all lead to increased eye discharge. Maverick’s discharge looks slightly green from the photos and this is generally indicative of an infection. If the green discharge lasts longer than 24hours, he seems uncomfortable, he is rubbing at the eye or he is squinting, he needs to see the veterinarian.
