Is my dog's recurring diarrhea caused by daily Greenies or her diet?

Withhold food for 12 hours then offer Mia boiled boneless chicken and rice every 6 hours in small portions. if she is eating and not vomiting, continue with this diet for 2 days. After 2 days, you can put her back gradually on her normal food. If she continues having diarrhea , take her to the vet to get treatment.

It's possible that this is a reaction to a snack or some other novel food, but it could also be due to an infection. It would be a good sign if she is eating and drinking well. Diarrhea is a common problem with puppies and is usually self-limiting (will go away on its own). It may not be serious right now, but it's always possible that it could be the start of something serious. If Bandera has any of the following, then she should see a vet: 1) Blood in diarrhea 2) Very watery diarrhea 3) Starts acting very depressed 4) Stops eating or drinking for longer than 24 hours. 5) Diarrhea lasts longer than three days. You can help her get through this by feeding bland food (boneless chicken and rice is good). Feed small portions (1/2 cup or less) three times a day. You can also add probiotics to the food (can get this at the pet store), which has demonstrated some efficacy for improving diarrhea. Ensure fresh, clean water is always available. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If the diarrhea only comes back when you start adding the Purina One Smart Blend in to the i/d then I would change foods. It sounds as though she has developed a sensitivity to that food or the protein in the food. If the Purina is chicken based try to get a formula with out chicken. Otherwise be sure you check a fecal and even consider deworming her (even if sample is negative), run general blood work to be sure nothing systemic is going on. Hill's i/d is a balanced diet and can be fed long term, worse case scenario. Personally I think it might be the Purina One formula, so I would try a different brand or different Purina one protein source. I hope this helps and I wish Maci the best!

This new treat could be causing Beanz to have diarrhea. I'd stop giving him the treats, and I can give you a home remedy for his diarrhea. Withhold food for 12 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, he vomits the bland diet, he refuses to eat the bland diet, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Most pets do not handle milk well and it will cause diarrhea so I would recommend discontinuing giving milk and other human foods, especially if they are causing diarrhea. If you think Ginger may have some tummy upset, you can pick up all food and offer a bland meal of boiled rice and chicken, before returning her to her regular diet. Be sure she is being fed a puppy food that is balanced and nutritious to ensure she is doing well. Having her stool checked for parasites, or taking her in for a vet exam if the diarrhea continues is best, as parasites, illness and other causes can also cause prolonged diarrhea and require treatment to resolve.

It is common that dogs will develop diarrhea from a sudden food change, but it can be challenging to do a slow diet change when they stop eating their regular diet. If Chi won't eat a bland diet, adding cooked white rice or cooked white or sweet potato to a diet may be a good option for her. I think at this point, you could continue the previous food since she was eating it well or try to introduce a new limited ingredient diet if that was what your vet had recommended. Sometimes 95% meat diets are too rich for dogs alone, but Chi may tolerate it with white rice or potato. However, you may also need to talk to your veterinarian about medication for the diarrhea since she has IBD and those dogs will sometimes have a harder time getting their diarrhea to resolve with diet change alone. Honey's diarrhea could be due to food intolerance/sensitivity, chronic parasites like Giardia, IBD or even something in her small intestine like a pancreas issue. Most of these potential causes requires some type of lab test to diagnose so I recommend she be examined by her veterinarian. Sometimes a diet change is needed, other times medication.
