My dog ate rawhide. He's vomiting, shaking, and in pain. Emergency?

Rawhides can get stuck in the stomach and GI tract, and that could be the cause of Duke's vomiting. Given that he has vomited a couple of times today and isn't eating, I would take him into a vet immediately. He should be checked out right away. Best of luck.

The rawhide is probably stuck in his stomach or possibly even worse in his intestines. if by tomorrow he is the same i would strongly recommend taking him ASAP to the vet in order to have an xray done, depending on the location of the rawhide he might need surgery to have it removed.

Hello, sorry to hear about Bailey. Yes ideally she should be examined as this raw hide may have caused irritation and inflammation of her GI tract. Rarely, raw hides may cause intestinal perforations which could lead to even greater complications. Therefore, you should have Bailey evaluated by her veterinarian soon, especially if you note any persistent diarrhea, vomiting, or decreased appetite. In the interim, you may feed a bland diet of plain white rice, skinless and boneless chicken, and low fat cottage cheese. Hope this helps and best of luck.

Poor Jack! I would be very concerned that this chew toy he ate is now causing a blockage leading to him vomiting. A GI blockage is fatal without treatment, so since you know he ate a chew toy, the best thing to do is take him into a vet immediately for a physical exam and x-rays. If the chew toy is causing a blockage, it will need to be removed surgically. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Poor Trooper. This is likely from the rawhide but it could also be from parasites, viral infection, any human food, eating something he shouldn’t, and much more. You could try to withhold his food for 12 hours and then reintroduce a small amount of plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if this settles his tummy. If he is lethargic, continuing to have bloody diarrhea, vomiting, or refusing to eat then I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work or even x-rays if needed. Your vet will also be able to get him started on some meds to help settle his tummy and make him feel better. Yes, I would take Rocket into the vet. It could be he broke a tooth in the back of his mouth chewing on this rawhide, and it can be hard to see the back of a dog's mouth when they are awake. Definitely have him checked out by a vet. Best of luck.

Hello, at his point, I would not be too concerned. Most times, the rawhide will continue to be digested. If Jack does not have much of an appetite tomorrow morning, just try feeding him a little later in the day. If, however, he starts vomiting, refuses all food, gulps water & vomits afterwards, or seems painful or bloated, then get him to your vet quickly. I have never liked giving any kind of rawhide to pets. Give him more appropriate items to chew such as Nylabones & Kong toys where you can hide food, & just about anything else that a dog can gnaw on without the possibility of breaking off & swallowing whole pieces.
