The diarrhea and blood can be from the raw hide so I would avoid them in the future. If she is eating, bright and not vomiting you can wait until Monday. Other causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, other dietary indiscretions, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, food allergy/intolerance, reaction to a new treat/table food/food. Poor Trooper. This is likely from the rawhide but it could also be from parasites, viral infection, any human food, eating something he shouldn’t, and much more. You could try to withhold his food for 12 hours and then reintroduce a small amount of plain chicken (no bones) and white rice to see if this settles his tummy. If he is lethargic, continuing to have bloody diarrhea, vomiting, or refusing to eat then I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to do a fecal, blood work or even x-rays if needed. Your vet will also be able to get him started on some meds to help settle his tummy and make him feel better. It is most likely an upset stomach. I would avoid giving beef raw hides. If the diarrhea is bad then fast him for 12-24 hours then offer a bland diet of boiled chicken or hamburger with rice. Hello, sorry to hear about Bailee. When pets are having abnormal GI signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, and a decreased appetite then we can see different changes in coloration of their stool. You should continue to monitor these changes for worsening bowel movements or diarrhea, loss of appetite and vomiting. Poor Meeka! The diarrhea could be due to many conditions including eating something she shouldn’t have, bacterial over growth, parasites, the raw diet or even organ disease. Since the diarrhea has continued beyond 24 hours, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian. With continued diarrhea, there are often bacterial shifts in the gut that will make matters worse regardless of the initial cause. Make sure to bring in a sample of fresh stool. The doctor will check her for parasites and bacterial over growth. Many times a bland diet can help and then a slow, gradual introduction to the normal food can be done. A bland diet can consist of 25% boiled white meat chicken and 75% boiled white rice. This should all be plain. Diarrhea could be caused by toxin ingestion, parasites, change in diet, infectious diseases, blockage in the gastrointestinal tract caused by ingestion of a foreign body (such as a piece of the bones you mentioned), or a mass/growth in the gastrointestinal tract. I recommend you make an appointment to take Kai in to the vet, and take in a fecal sample from Kai when you go. Your vet will likely want to test the sample to see what kind of parasites Kai may be dealing with so that they can be treated for accordingly. I recommend that you avoid feeding bones, antlers, and similar objects. Make sure with anything you feed Kai that you are able to easily dent the surface with a fingernail, as anything harder than that could lead to fracturing of the teeth or blockage of the gastrointestinal tract.
