My dog got rat poison in her mouth. I rinsed it. Will she be okay?

As long as she didn't ingest any, there is little concern that she will have any toxic effects. You can flush her mouth with water to help ensure there is no residue. It's best to find out the type of poison. If you have the packaging, then there should be a number to call in case of poisoning. If you call the number on the package (1-877-854-2494) you should be able to talk to someone at the animal poison control who can help you determine what chance there is of any toxic effects and if anything needs to be done. Regardless of the dose ingested, it is recommended to at the very least start then on vitamin k which can help tremendously if in fact Roxy got anywhere near her toxic dose. This is an inexpensive and easy to implement therapy. She is not at a point that any effects are expected as it is too early in the course for that. I recommend that you have Roxy evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They could check her out and treat her accordingly. Good luck and have a great day!

I suggest you take her to your veterinarian for a coagulation panel in about 7 days, just in case some of the anticoagulant in the poison (if this was the anticoagulant type) dis get absorbed. Watch for signs of illness (neurological such as seizures, or increased thirst...there are a few other types of rat poison which can cause this) and if these occur, please take your dog to the vet. Apart from that, if all the poison was regurgitated within a relatively short time after ingestion, your dog should be fine.

I'd take Chubbs into a vet immediately for treatment to be safe. Depending on the type of poison, it can take days for signs of rat poisoning to appear in dogs. Bring the box of rat poison so the vet can treat him appropriately. Best of luck.

I don't know all the details about his case and what his bloodwork looked like, but if the vet said he should be fine, then it appears everything checked out ok. I know how it is to worry about your pet and wanting extra confirmation that things are fine. Only at high doses are they considered lethal, and there would have been symptoms of a high dosage within 12 hrs of ingestion. If you have not seen any symptoms (i.e. hyperexcitability, hyperthermia, muscle tremors, hyperthermia, or seizures), then he did not receive a lethal dose of the toxin. Low dose toxicity can cause delayed symptoms, which are 1-4 days post ingestion. These are typically managed with medications and supportive care. Just keep an eye on Beau for the next 2 days for any changes and have them addressed by your vet asap. Otherwise, you can rest easy knowing that he likely did not ingest a lethal dose of the poison. Mila should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. This product is an anti-coagulant poison that inhibits normal blood clotting and leads to internal bleeding. Fortunately, there is an effective antidote (Vitamin K) but it's important to make sure you minimize the amount of poison Mila absorbs, and get her started on the antidote. Depending on the timing of the ingestion, your vet may make Mila vomit, and may give her something to minimize absorption, or they may recommend testing her current blood clotting ability. If she wasn't showing any signs of toxicity and started vitamin K right away, then most cases would do just fine. Also, it sounds like she didn't ingest enough to cause toxic effects if the company is correct. If you want to feel even more certain (in terms of amount ingested) you can call Animal Poison Control if you know the exact brand/concentration of the bait she ingested, then they can calculate the toxic dose needed to cause symptoms.
