My dog ate rat poison 10 hours ago. She seems fine. Vet needed?

While this rat poison has a different mechanism of action that has been advertised as being less harmful to dogs, it has been reported to cause issues in dogs including anemia, gastrointestinal upset, among other symptoms. For that reason, I would recommend that you contact the ASPCA poison control center as they specialize in the more uncommon toxicities in dogs and will have more information on how to proceed from here. Otherwise, have him evaluated by a veterinarian so that they can contact the poison control center for you and proceed with the treatment recommendations. This is time sensitive and he should be evaluated as soon as possible. I am hoping for a full recovery!

Mila should be seen by a veterinarian immediately. This product is an anti-coagulant poison that inhibits normal blood clotting and leads to internal bleeding. Fortunately, there is an effective antidote (Vitamin K) but it's important to make sure you minimize the amount of poison Mila absorbs, and get her started on the antidote. Depending on the timing of the ingestion, your vet may make Mila vomit, and may give her something to minimize absorption, or they may recommend testing her current blood clotting ability. I am sorry to hear about your worry with Charley! It sounds like luckily she is in the clear! If she wasn't showing any signs of toxicity and started vitamin K right away, then most cases would do just fine. Also, it sounds like she didn't ingest enough to cause toxic effects if the company is correct. If you want to feel even more certain (in terms of amount ingested) you can call Animal Poison Control if you know the exact brand/concentration of the bait she ingested, then they can calculate the toxic dose needed to cause symptoms. If it was dead or lethargic, or if there has been rat bait placed anywhere Camper could have gone, you need to see your vet first thing in the morning for Rat Poison antidote. Taken as a preventative, it should prevent any problems from occurring. Rat Poison is often FATAL in dogs if not treated and early treatment is very successful. So if there is ANY possibility, please see your vet. Otherwise, continue to monitor Camper. As long as he remains playful and energetic, with normal stool and no vomiting, you do not have much cause for concern. If any of that changes, its time to see your vet. Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! Bromethalin is the new rat poison that causes neurologic damage to the mice resulting in death. There is no antidote for this poison. Lethal dose depends on HOW much Rotty ate compared to his weight. You need to call Pet Poison Control ASAP. If he ate it yesterday it is already out of his stomach and inducing vomiting will not help he has already absorbed it. If you induced vomiting yesterday and he brought it up then that is a good thing, but still call Poison Control!. Decon is a highly toxic rat bait that cause death through the disruption of calcium and phosphorus ratio by absorption of vitamin D. Even very small quantities are toxic as only a .1mg/kg dose is known to start producing toxic effects. Also troubling is that clinical signs are sometimes not present for days after the ingestion. As a result, I would highly recommend bring Luna to your local ER for 24-48 hours of IV fluid therapy, Activated Charcoal, and generalized GI support. The use of charcoal in many toxic exposures is useful in up to and further than 24 hours in some cases. I would also encourage you to open up an active case to the ASPCA poison control hot line and provide the case number to your veterinarian should you go this route. It is about 65 dollar but gives you and your vet access to a board certified veterinary toxicologist. Hope this makes sense.
