My puppy has a rash, red eyes, and wounds. Is it her dog food?

It’s hard to say what is exactly going on here but it does look very inflamed and possibly infected. If thenlesionnhas been there more than 2 days and/or is getting worse and is irritating to Doja I would recommend having it looked at by your veterinarian. She may need antibiotics to help it clear up. As far as food is concerned, I generally recommend Hills, Purina, Royal Canin, Iams or Eukanuba. Hi. I would be thinking allergies in her case. It can cause redness, itching, secondary infections, even crusts in the area. Pets can be allergic to the protein in their food, environmental allergens, or a combination of the two. When they are younger like Rey, i would lean more towards food allergies. They are usually allergic to the chicken, beef or lamb....the most common ingredients in most over the counter dog foods. I would make an appointmet to get her checked out and get her on medications for secondary infection and itchiness. And also discuss food allergies with your veterinarian.

Hi! Yes for sure it could be an allergy to a new food ingredient, so you could try going back to her original food. However, dogs often get a rash caused by bacterial in this area though as well. This is called pyoderma. If possible, get her checked out by her vet. They might be able to prescribe some cream, or oral medication, depending on how things look! Best of luck with Luna!

At her age I would be concerned she has mange (scabies) due to the itching and locations. It is hard to find and actually mite on them but very easy to treat just to be safe. Some puppies get a puppy pyoderma which is little pustules and bumps on their bellies. Most out grow this but few need antibiotics to help when it occurs. She is young to have allergies but it is not impossible. I would have your vet recheck the skin for mange and do weekly baths to help

Those spots on Maybelle could be several things including allergies, skin mites, flea bites, ringworm (which humans can get) or a bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for dogs, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. You can wash the lesions with soap once a day and rinse well (don't wash her whole body, just those spots). Protect the areas from licking or scratching. If they don't start looking better within about a week or if they get worse, have her examined by the veterinarian who may prescribe medications. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. A secondary infection is likely and also needs to be addressed. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!
