Puppy wound & red eyes. What dog food is best for allergies?

It could be related to the food, but food allergies are uncommon in puppies this young. Food intolerance is usually characterized by vomiting and/or diarrhea. I would recommend that you have Doja's skin checked out by the vet to see what could be going on. Pyoderma/skin infection and parasites would be common causes for lesions such as you described.

Dozer could be suffering from serve allergies but lesions like this could also be signs of an autoimmune condition. Also, a bland diet is not a food trial. To rule out food allergies a food trial must be completed. A food trial will last for 8-12 weeks and during that time, Dozer CANNOT eat ANYTHING other than the diet. That means no treats, chewies or even flavored pet toothpaste. Food allergy is best ruled out with a diet trial using a hydrolyzed protein because it can rule out all types of food allergy. If there is not a positive response to the food trial in 8-12 weeks, I recommend to have the lesion biopsied to look for autoimmune disease. It could potentially be an ear infection. I would recommend taking Diesel to the veterinarian to have them evaluate his whole ear canal to make sure an infection isn't deep in the ear canal. If you wanted to switch dog foods I would go to a salmon based formula to get some omega 3s in his diet. It is not a hypoallergenic food but it may help a little. It really comes down to figuring out what is causing her allergies so that they can be treated or the specific allergen avoided. There are many things that can cause allergies though in most cases they can be broken down into 3 big categories: flea, food and environmental allergies. Allergies are usually worked up in a stepwise fashion starting with flea allergies as this is the easiest and cheapest to take care of. If not on a flea preventative, then it would be a good idea to get started on one. If already on one then it would be a good idea to change to something else (there are many new products out in the market). If not improved in 1-3 months then it is time to move on and check for food allergies by switching to a novel diet (new protein and new carbohydrate). If that does not seem to be the issue then you are left out having to check for environmental allergies which require blood and/or skin tests. Allergies can be very frustrating to deal with at first but so rewarding at the end when we are able to treat them effectively!

This sounds like an environment or food allergy. The red is due to yeast proliferation from moistness in the hair. I would recommend a novel protein elimination diet for 40 days. Benadryl is a good anti-histamine but may not work as it only improves a certain type of allergy. Neosporin can be damaging to the kidneys so I would avoid using it. It also only contains antibiotics and so would not be helpful. Fish oils can also be very helpful at lowering inflammation in the body and improving skin and joint health.

I would try hills z/d ultra or royal canin anallergenic (an even more restricted version). Ensure also she is not receiving any additional treats, flavored tablets, bones, table scraps or raiding any garbage bins. She may also require prescription medication to resolve the current flare up. A home prepared diet may be an option but would have to be formulated with the help of an expert nutritionalist and can only comprise of novel ingredients (foods she has never eaten before such as kangaroo/venison/sweet potato etc - these are very difficult to supplement sufficiently and are very expensive to maintain in the long term)
