My chihuahua has a rash and bites paws. What can I do until the vet?

Oh no, poor Bitty sounds very uncomfortable at the moment! There are a couple of things this could be, and one is fleas. Even though you don't see any, it's still possible she has fleas. It could also be that she has mites, allergies, or ringworm. As for rubbing her butt on the carpet, this could be due to intestinal worms or impacted anal sacs. I would have Bitty seen by a vet for her problems tomorrow. The vet can diagnose what is causing them, and prescribe treatment for her. Tonight, try giving her an oatmeal or Epsom salt bath, as either may temporarily relieve her itching.

Hello. Poor Chiquis has allergies, probably an inhalant one to pollen, grasses or dust mites. If you can get her to your veterinarian, she will have very good medications to control the symptoms. These include Apoquel & Cytopoint . You can try a hypoallergenic shampoo to help quiet her symptoms, but this will be temporary, lasting a day or so. But you can bathe her 2-3 times a week to minimize the symptoms. I would try Douxo Calm, or Hylyt antiitch shampoos, both available on Chewy.com. Also, start her on a fish oil supplement. I really recommend Nordic Naturals, also available on chewy.com, to help with the itching. Her symptoms can be controlled, but not cured unless you invest in allergy testing & a desensitization protocol, so check in with your veterinarian at your earliest convenience. Prevent him from licking the area by having him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. You can wash the area daily with soap and rinse well. Once it is dried, you can apply a dab of coconut oil and rub it in well. Make sure he does not lick this as it can cause GI upset. It is possible she has an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast or both on her skin. She may need special medicated shampoo such as Ketochlor or Malaseb or in some cases oral medication. I would bring her in to the vet to look at the area and they can test to see if bacteria or yeast or present and prescribe appropriate treatment.

I'm sorry to hear that Jax is so uncomfortable! The redness and inflammation on his foot is pretty significant. This type of skin issue is most commonly caused by underlying allergies to fleas, food or the environment. When dogs itch and bite a lot, they damage the protective outer layers of the skin, often resulting in the onset of bacterial and/or yeast skin infections. It's possible that he may need some anti-itch medications, antibiotics or anti-fungal medications. I understand that Jax is not the most cooperative at the vet, but this is something that warrants veterinary attention. I'd recommend calling your vet to ask if they can prescribe a sedative before the appointment or consider working with a house call vet in your area. I hope that everything goes well!

This is probably an allergic reaction due to an insect bite or a plant outside. those reactions tend to resolve within 48 hours without treatment. if the itchiness becomes too severe or if your dog is lethargic, take Chico to the vet in order to get an antihistamine or steroid injection which will stop the allergic reaction.
