My dog is quiet and not herself after coming back. Should I worry?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear that but this could just be exhaustion and normal tiredness. They may have been exhibiting breeding behavior if they are male and female dogs resulting in exhaustion or just very tired from roaming while away from your home. I wouldn't encourage any playing. Let them rest up. As long as your dog is eating, drinking and going to the bathroom normally then I wouldn't be too concerned but if any seems different, the best bet is to have your veterinarian evaluate them. They can perform a physical exam, take their temperature, and advise any tests (fecal, blood, xrays, ultrasound, etc) which would help them with a diagnosis. Or they may just prescribe some medication if that is indicated. Good luck with your dog and I hope things return to normal soon.

She could just be worn out but since you said she isn't very responsive, I would recommend to take her to the vet. The vet may want to run some blood work on her to ensure she didn't get into any toxins or poison while she was missing. They will also be sure she is well hydrated and doesn't need any additional treatment. I hope this helps and she starts to feel better soon. I am so glad you found her.

Hi. Poor Colby. It definitely sounds like something is wrong, she may not feel well, have pain somewhere, not reacting to stress well, and much more. I'd get her checked out tomorrow. They will do an exam make sure everything is ok on outside. I would have them check her anal glands as well. Sometimes when that are full, it can make them act very odd. If the exam and anal glands are normal, then lab work and x-rays would be next, hope she feels better soon.

I would recommend bringing her to a veterinarian right away. I am unsure how long she was out but her behavior is very abnormal for her age. I am worried that she ingested something toxic or was traumatically injured. It is hard for me to discern without a physical exam but I would recommend an exam, some bloodwork and maybe even some radiographs depending.

If he's never been away from you, it may be that he is having some anxiety with you being gone that may be contributing. However, it could be something more serious. Since he's acting lethargic and is not eating, talk to your mum ( I assume this is who is caring for him currently?) and see if she can get him in to see a vet in the next few days. It could be that Shadow played a lot while at your girlfriend's house, and the excitement of going to a new place and then back home may have tired her out. Given that this lethargy just started today, I wouldn't be too concerned just yet. Keep an eye on her, and if she is still acting this way after 24 hours or she develops other signs such as not eating, vomiting, and refusing to drink water, then I would be concerned. I am so sorry to hear that you are experiencing these issues with Poppy. I am sure it's very upsetting for you. From what you are describing it seems that the most likely cause for the change in her behaviours is that she is still adjusting to your return after a long period of separation. This might be more likely if this was the longest time you have left her before. I would give her time to feel more secure and potentially try the following; Increase exercise Increased attention and interaction Interactive toys or chews for periods when you leave the house Positive reinforcement for interactions It will take time, patience and a dedication to the process for these techniques to help. It is also possible that she experienced a negative situation while you were away, and perhaps a call to the dog minder to ask if anything out of the ordinary occurred could be helpful. If the behaviours continue, consider a trip to the vet to make sure there aren't any underlaying medical causes. If not, consider a consult with a behaviour expert
