My dog's sad, not eating, running away since I left. What's wrong?

Your dog needs to be seen by your vet as soon as possible. Any abrupt change in behavior or attitude is a sign he's not feeling well, and without an exam from a vet there's no real way to know what's going on and therefore, how to treat it. He could have eaten something he shouldn't have that's causing an obstruction or irritation, he could have been exposed to something toxic that you weren't aware of, there's a number of possibilities. Your vet will do an exam, lab work, possibly x-rays if indicated, and based on these results, your vet will be better able to understand what is going on with your dog and how best to treat him.

Hi. If he is acting abnormal, and its notike him, I would recommend an exam and labwork by your veterinarian. There are many things that can cause lethargy unfortunately. So without more information and testing, it is hard to say what it could be

This may be from the stress of a new routine since you had to leave him. For some dogs, it is not uncommon for them to get lethargic and even have a decreased appetite due to changes like this. If he is not back to normal with in 24 hours of your normal routine again, then I would have him checked by your vet

Loss of appetite and lethargy can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Ginger evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. They would be able to check for these possibilities and others depending on the findings on exam. The description that you gave of Jex sounds very concerning. I would get him into a veterinarian for a thorough exam. He most likely will need some diagnostics to find out what is going on. There is a chance that he has eaten something foreign that has caused a partial obstruction, he could have pneumonia, and there are lots of other possibilities by the description that you have given. A week of inappetance, lethargy, and now panting is concerning for many different conditions, some fatal without treatment. Concerns would be a foreign object stuck in his gut, severe gastritis, heart disease, infection/sepsis, etc. Lethargy and inappetance (not eating) are vague clinical signs that can be associated with many disease conditions. Your vet will do an exam, and likely run some bloodwork, and might have to take some x-rays. Best of luck with Alfie, I hope he feels better soon!

Since Shadow is not acting like his normal self I would be concerned that there is something going on medically with him. They symptoms you are describing are very vague and could indicate several different things going on. Based on Shadow's age I would be concerned about a metabolic or internal issue such as kidney disease, liver disease, or diabetes. Unfortunately the only way to know if he has these diseases is to have your veterinarian run some blood work. In the meantime, while you are trying to convince your mom to take him to the vet, try to keep him as calm and comfortable at home as possible. I would avoid letting him go outside alone unattended if you can. If his appetite is decreasing try feeding him some plain boiled chicken and rice.
