My dog has purple growths on leg, one burst with a hole. What is it?

Unfortunately the color on the picture is quite distorted. However if appears to be a possible abscess (infected pocket caused by trauma to the skin) or a large inflammatory response to a bug bite (spider perhaps). It is large however and looks irritated so I would recommend having your vet examine this area closely. Jasmine will likely need some medicaitons to get this to resolve well. Poor girl. Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. What you are describing may be what we call papules or could be hemangiomas. Papules typically show up secondary to allergies or skin infections and hemagniomas are almost like blood blisters but can turn into cancerous skin tumors if not removed. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine these bumps so that you can get closer to an answer in regards to what these may be and what the most appropriate diagnostic / treatment recommendations would be. Luna could have a few different things going on. Without a picture it is hard to tell you exactly. Young dogs can get non cancerous growths called histiocytomas. These sometimes will go away with in a few months. If the growth does not go away I would take him to a veterinarian to have an aspirate taken. It is also possible a foreign body, infection or insect bite is possible.

It may be an ulcerated growth from a pressure sore if he seems to lay on that side more. If there is a discharge then it is likely infected and will need antibiotics. Your vet can sample some cells and see if it is a growth or a pressure sore and advise if surgery is recommended in that area

This kind of lesion/blister needs to be ideally assessed by your veterinarian to have a definitive and specific answer. Usually there are two ways your vet can do that a part from examining it directly during physical examination. A biopsy can be taken under local or general anesthetic, otherwise a smaller sample through a fine needle can be aspirated (this technique is called FNA= fine needle aspiration). Differentials include skin cysts, infections, benign or more sinister type of tumors. This looks very abnormal. I would be worried about this and I think you should have him seen by a vet. Could be ringworm, a staph bacterial infection, a spider (or other insect) bite, an autoimmune disease or the start of a cancerous lesion.

This can be one of two things: 1) a small abscess that has ruptured. 2) a small tumor that did not have enough room to grow and therefore started to ulcerate and finally ruptured. Since it is on a leg and deep, you should have your veterinarian have a look at it, to see whether any vital structures are involved and whether it is a tumor that needs to be removed.
