My dog has a puffy, bleeding eyelid in one eye. What's the cause?

Poor Gomez! From the picture, he has bletharitis- inflammation of the eyelid. I would recommend that you take him to a veterinarian. They will do an exam and try to find out the cause. They might do diagnostics such as cytology to see if infected. After that- they will give you meds that are safe for the eye area! Good Luck! A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. This could be due to an eye injury or conditions such as a corneal laceration, corneal ulcer, conjunctivitis, dry eye (also known as KCS), among many other conditions. This is a very abnormal looking eye and it appears that your dog has some serious issues with the cornea. The cornea is very cloudy and hazy and the pink lesion looks like a large ulcer on the cornea. This eye is likely chronically dry and lacking in tear production. This eye looks like it is in imminent danger of rupturing. I would recommend that you take your pet to the closest emergency clinic if you are unable to get help from a regular daytime vet right away. Your pet should be seen immediately and it is not a good idea to wait for 7 days. Your pet will likely need multiple prescription eye medications and possibly surgery in order to repair the defect. Please do not try to treat this without a proper diagnosis and proper medication.

From your description, this could be something called a cherry eye (prolapsed tear gland), or could be a localized infection or injury to the eye or conjunctiva in this area. Since you are also seeing bloody discharge from the eye, I would recommend having Gus seen by a vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can examine the eye to determine the problem. If he has a cherry eye, it will need to be surgically corrected. If he has an injury or an infection, he will need prescription eye drops to treat it.

It looks as Benji is suffering from an eye infection, it is relatively common in dogs. you will need to take him to the vet the first chance you get, the vet will check the eyes, if it is indeed a simple eye infection your vet will prescribe an antibiotic eye drops that will probably solve the problem in no time.
