Why is my dog's poop hard then yellow and runny after a few seconds?

Based on the fact that Teddy is acting normal, there may not be anything serious going on. I would recommend to have his stool checked for parasites including Giardia. These are easy tests and would account for the change in his stool character. If these tests are negative, you may choose to do nothing else except monitor him. Some parasites can be spread to people so it is worthwhile to have it checked out. I hope this answers your question!

See if there is fur and poop matted there and see if the skin is red and inflammed. If there is matted fur wash him. If he isn't matted or the skin is red I recommend he see your Vet today. They can address the skin and check to see if his anal glands need to be emptied. Full or impacted anal glands can cause scooting. Causesof diarrhea in puppies: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, dietary indiscretion, food sensitivity or toxin ingestion. Bring a stool sample to your appointment. After the exam they may prescribe an antibiotic and/or a probiotic. If his skin is irriated they may prescribe a topical to apply. I hope this helps. However, if this does not resolve or progresses to watery diarrhea, a veterinary evaluation should be pursued. Diarrhea can be observed with conditions such as colitis, gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, intestinal parasites, among many other possibilities. I recommend that you have Pepper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. It sounds like Nala could benefit from added fiber in her diet. I add a teaspoon to tablespoon of canned pumpkin to each meal, or other vegetables to bulk up the stool. The fiber will make her poop more often and the poop will be firm but not as hard so she should not be in pain when pooping. I would also monitor her outside to make sure she's not eating dirt or other things that could cause problems. You can add canned pumpkin to add fiber to his diet which may help firm up his stools. You can add 1 tablespoon of canned pumpkin to his meals. You can also add probiotics such as Fortiflora. Hello and thank you for reaching out to Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Yes, it looks like Snowy is having some diarrhea. Diarrhea can be caused by a number of things, ranging from dietary indiscretion (he ate something he shouldn't have), diet change, gastrointestinal parasites (worms), or other organ system diseases like liver disease, kidney disease, pancreatitis, etc. I recommend feeding Snowy a bland diet such as boiled (unseasoned) chicken or hamburger and rice, in a ratio of 2 parts rice to 1 part meat, for the next 3-4 days, to help firm up his stools. You can also try adding in a small amount of Metamucil (original, unflavored) powder to this food. Metamucil is an over-the-counter fiber supplement for people that we often use to help dogs with diarrhea. He would likely benefit from about 1/4 teaspoon of Metamucil in his food twice a day. If you are not noticing an improvement in his diarrhea after 2-3 days, I recommend bringing him (and a sample of his stool) to your veterinarian. At that time, a fecal analysis can be performed, and any other diagnostics as needed. I hope this is helpful! Best of luck with Snowy!

This looks like Bear has soft stool, close to diarrhea. The red color could be caused by the color of his dogfood, but it could also be a little blood. If Bear is happy, does not appear ill, lethargic , eats and drinks you can do the following: Diarrhea can have many causes such as a food over sensitivity, eating something that does not agree with the dog, intestinal parasites, an intestinal blockage, bacterial infection, viral infection, the weather, food change, stress, etc.  I would fast Bear for 24 hours and then put him on bland food for two days, such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days. If this does not clear up the diarrhea or he starts vomiting, or if Bear gets lethargic, he needs to see a veterinarian for an exam as there may be something more serious such as an infection going on.
