My dog accidentally got too much penicillin. Will she be okay?

Don' t worry about having given her a one off overdose. It is a third generation cephalosporin antibiotic that it's quite often used at high dosages for skin problems. If given continuously at double dosage, I would recommend to check her liver through a blood test but since it just occurred once I would not worry on this occasion.

For a dog this size, it has a possibility of causing damage to the stomach, intestines and kidneys, but I would have to know how big of a bottle it was. If it was half of a 15g bottle, then the dose should not be too harmful, but it's difficult to know for sure. Watch for signs of vomiting, diarrhea and a decrease in appetite as signs that she is having an adverse reaction. If you notice any of this, then she should go to the vet immediately for treatment. Oh no, that was naughty of Baxter! He took about five times the recommended dose of ampicillin. This will likely cause a reaction in the form of vomiting, drooling, and diarrhea, but more serious effects such as tremors or seizures. If you see tremors or seizures, Baxter will have to see a vet immediately. Should you see vomiting and diarrhea, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed him a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet.

Most likely this amount of amoxicillin is not going to cause Theodore any harm. However any medication can cause GI irritation like vomiting and diarrhea. IF you notice any diarrhea I would recommend trying a bland diet for 12-24 hours of boiled chicken and white rice. Hopefully Chappo will only experience GI effects for this overdose. However, in some cases Amoxicillin overdose can cause neurological side effects, elevated liver enzymes and even cardiac issues. Do not give Chappo any more amoxicillin until you are able to get him in to your veterinarian.
