My 2-year-old Great Dane pees in his sleep, but shows no pain?

Hello. I am so sorry for your worries with Niles. There may be some age-related changes in his spine that are causing him to defecate inappropriately. Things like a narrowing of the spinal column called spinal stenosis is a fairly common age related change we can see especially in the very large breed dogs. Sometimes ant-inflammatory medications ca help, but he needs to be examined by your veterinarian for an accurate assessment. I can say he has not lost any house training ability. Usually incontinence can be due to an infection in the bladder, in this case the urine is usually quite drak and smelly. You can have it tested by a vet and treated accordingly. Alternatively in an older dog it can be due to incompetence of the sphnincter muscle, medications can help this. Other reasons can be hormonal issues or kidney problems. Neurological conditions are rare and tend to be associated with trauma and other signs such as paralysis. I would get her checked by her vet if it persists but leave any major treatment to her owners.

Keep in mind that this may be unrelated to the crystals and can even be something like urinary incontinence. I would continue monitoring for signs of painful urination or bloody urine. I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Further diagnostics would include abdominal imaging and lab work. Hi, puppies can get urinary tract infections. I would watch her for urinating more frequently and in small amounts. At 7 months, she should be mostly house trained so this is not likely a behavior issue but it is still possible. I would take her to the vet for an exam if it happens a third time. They can put her on some antibiotics for this and she should be fine. Good luck!

This can't be pleasant for you or for Ted! Urination during sleep can have several causes, including a urinary tract infection, seizures, weakness to the urethral sphincter (hormone related or not), or even "bed wetting" that Ted could grow out of. Regardless, the first step should include taking Ted to his vet for an exam, prostate exam (unlikely to be an issue since he has been neutered) and urinalysis to check for infection. If there is not a readily apparent diagnosis, your vet will discuss monitoring for seizure activity or a trial with medications to improve the urethral sphincter's function. I hope this helps!
