My dog is peeing everywhere after spay surgery. Is this normal?

If these behavior changes have taken place directly in concern with the surgical procedure, I would first want to make sure there is no post-operative medical issue taking place. It is not common to see urinary tract infections shortly after a procedure that could easily be the cause of the problems you are seeing. Although the pooping in inappropriate locations may not have anything to do with the urinary tract, Molly may be in too much discomfort to necessarily care about following the rules in general. Conversely, it is possible that the removal of hormone producing organs in the body are causing a behavior change resulting in problems you are witnessing. This would be very uncommon however, and I think that first ruling out the medical issue would be the prudent way to approach this.

You should call the vet and give him/her an update so they know what is going on with your dog. Your vet may want to see her or just ask you to bring in a urine sample to check for an infection. If she has a urinary tract infection, your vet may prescribe an antibiotic, unless she is already on an antibiotic post-spay.

Yes it can be. Sirius had anesthesia, a surgical procedure and medications for pain. His routine was changed and his eating and drinking also. Most likely they gave him fluids during the procedure that can cause increased urination. Please go back to his housebreaking training. I recommend keeping him in a crate when you’re not home, and taking him out frequently for potty breaks. Reward him and praise him when he goes outside. When you’re home keep Sirius on a leash with you so he’ll ask when he needs to go, and he can’t sneak off somewhere and mess in the house. The incision looks normal. Her behavior is not. I recommend a recheck exam. She could be painful or could have a urinary infection. If the doxycycline is causing a stomach upset they may be able to switch antibiotics. They can put her on pain medication also to make her more comfortable. I recommend feeding wet food with added water in it so she doesn't get dehydrated. Again most dogs are back to normal in a day or two after the surgery so please bring her in for a recheck to make sure there is no complication. It has to do with the drop in hormone levels after the surgery and that has some effect on bladder control. Fortunately, this can be treated with medication if the accidents continue and do not get better. You may wan to visit with your veterinarian soon regarding medication if he does not improve soon. Some females will develop incontinence after the spay. This does make them more prone to urinary tract infections and I do recommend to have Amber visit her veterinarian. The doctor will check her for a bladder infection and if that is clear they will discuss starting her on a medication to tighten the sphincter. This will likely stop the incontinence. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Brooke. I recommend that she sees her veterinarian. A urinalysis will be performed to look for evidence of a urinary tract infection. This is most likely. If she had started her heat cycle before her spay, you could also see residual blood. Rarely, a bleeding disorder could be present or a complication from the surgery.
