My golden doodle puppy had a peace lily in his mouth. Is it toxic?

Oh no, that's not good that Layla ate a petal from a lily! As I'm sure you know, the lily is toxic to dogs and causes GI upset, anorexia, and tremors. Typically a dog has to eat large amounts of it to cause these symptoms, so one petal may not be enough to cause any problems. I would watch Layla for now, and if you do see any GI upset in the form of vomiting or diarrhea, I can give you a home remedy to try. Withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she vomits the bland diet, the diarrhea continues on the bland diet, she stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away. The toxic components in tulips is concentrated in the bulb but is also present (in less concentrated amounts) in the other parts of the plant as well. I think Rocky will be fine but symptoms you would see would be associated with irritation of the mouth and esophagus: drooling and maybe vomiting. If you didn't do so already, flush out his mouth really well. If vomiting occurs I would have him seen by a vet. I hope this helps and I wish Rocky the best!

The Pothos plant (Devils' Iv) is listed on the ASPCA website as being poisonous to dogs. It can cause the following clinical symptoms: Oral irritation, pain and swelling of mouth, tongue and lips, excessive drooling, vomiting (not horses), difficulty swallowing. Lilies are not toxic to dogs although they can cause stomach upset. All parts of the lily plant are quite toxic to cats and cause kidney failure, but dogs seem to be resistant. If Zoey vomits or develops diarrhea you should see your veterinarian.

Fat, skin and seasonings can cause GI upset and even pancreatitis in some dogs. Allow her to have water but no food for ~12 hours, then offer her half of her normal dog food. If she tolerates that well, then she can have the rest of her food a couple hours later. If she has vomitting, excessive diarrhea or acts lethargic then she should be seen by a veterinarian for treatment. I hope she's back to normal quickly.

After a couple days, there is no sense in taking him to the vet unless he is acting sick. Fortunately, Peace Lily (Spathiphyllum) toxicity isn’t as great as that of other types of lilies, including Easter lily and Asiatic lilies. The Peace lily, isn’t a true lily, so it doesn’t cause damage to the kidneys and liver like the other lillies do.

If Mooch has just eaten the leaf (in the last 30-60 min), you should rinse his mouth with water or offer him plenty of water to drink. If he is asymptomatic, you should monitor him at home. If he does not develop any worrying symptoms in the next 2-3hrs, it will mean that is fine. However, if you notice that Mooch is drooling, vomiting or finds it difficult to eat, you should take him to your local vets right away
