My dog's paw got run over. Will it heal? Does she need stitches?

Ouch! That does look pretty painful. If it's not healing with home care, I'd definitely bring Aspen into your vet. They can provide oral antibiotics and pain medications as needed, and can help deeply clean the wound to flush out any dirt or debris. Paw pads can sometimes be hard to stitch up, especially since it's on a walking surface, so keeping it as clean and dry as possible is best, however your vet can close the wound with wound glute or stitches as needed if it isn't healing, or is larger than a few centimeters in length.

I am sorry to hear that your pet has an injury to his leg and paw. Unfortunately, how to treat injuries like this depends entirely on the extent of the injury itself. This would require a more in depth conversation so that an appropriate wound management plan can be devised for your pet and this is not easy to do at home without any medical treatment (pain mediation, antibiotics if needed, or anti-inflammatories). Not to mention it could be a very painful and prolonged situation for your pet. Generally if there are broken bones then a fixture device such as a splint or cast are best used to help keep the bones stable for long enough (typically 4-6 weeks) until they are healed. However this would require splint/cast changes every 1-2 weeks depending on how fast the pet grows. Also the fracture must not be an open fracture (through the skin). If there are no fractures (sometimes can only be ruled out with an x-ray of the leg), then proper shaving of the hair and cleansing of the external wounds using chlorhexidine solution 3% or iodine (diluted 50:50 with warm water) is needed. The hair itself carries a lot of bacteria so clipping it is essential. Then depending on the extent of the skin damage bandaging this area may be needed and changed every 2-7 days. Then once the wounds are seen to be healing well and the top layer of skin is intact the bandages can finally be removed. As I mentioned before typically if there is extensive damage then your pet should get proper medications to a) prevent infection and b)ease discomfort and pain. I just don't see how any of this can be achieved without getting a professional involved unless you are knowledgeable about managing wounds in pets. Ouch, poor Koda! It looks like he injured his pad, and it could be that it's torn. I would say it definitely needs veterinary treatment, as it may need some stitches or surgical glue to help it heal correctly. In addition, it's clearly painful to him as he's limping. I would bandage it to keep it clean and dry, and take him into the vet tomorrow or Monday. You may need to put an Ecollar on him to keep him from licking at it. Poor Paris! I agree that she should be examined by the veterinarian. They will palpate her leg to determine where the source of pain is coming from. They will palpate her for any broken bones. They may recommend a radiograph if a fracture, bone tumor or infection is suspected. They can also provide her pain medication to make her more comfortable. I hope she starts feeling better quickly.

Hi and thanks for your post on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! I am sorry to hear Dog has stepped on glass. That can certainly cause paw pad lacerations. From the picture, it looks like he has been licking at it. My best advice is to take Dog to his veterinarian so the paw can be examined, smaller less obvious pieces of glass can be removed if still embedded in the paw pad, and bandaged properly. Dog may need to be on antibiotics as well as wear a cone for a few days until his paw pad has healed up. Best of luck!

Rest him completely for the next 48 hours (just go out on lead walks for his business). If the signs do not resolve and Bobby is not putting weight on the leg after 48hours a check is necessary to treat at least the pain/inflammation with appropriate meds. Ice packs on the affected leg (on the spot where you think Bobby might have been injured) may be helpful (10 minutes 2 times daily). Ouch, poor Scarlett! A cut this bad will need stitches to repair it. I would apply gentle pressure to stop any bleeding, wrap a loose bandage around it to keep it protected, and keep her from licking at it. I would find an ER vet or a vet on call to see Scarlett now to get stitches to fix it.
