My dog has a paw cut. Can I use superglue to close the wound?

Hello, not necessarily. It looks like it is apposed sufficiently enough, however, sure glue is not something used for wound closure and may interfere with the healing of the laceration. I would monitor the area for any redness, discharge, swelling, pain, or purple/black discoloration in the surrounding skin and bring him to your veterinarian if you note any of the above. If the wound is actively bleeding I recommend an urgent assessment as there are large blood vessels which can be damaged. Otherwise bathing the foot in cold water to keep clean and fresh will reduce the risk of infection. You should have the wound checked by your vet as soon as possible to see if surgical repair is necessary or if it can be allowed to heal naturally

Unfortunately, you cannot use glue for this deep of a wound. Buddy needs veterinary care where they clean up the wound and staple or suture it closed. He then needs antibiotics and pain medication. I see the cut in the picture, and I think that is may need stitches. I cannot accurately say how deep it is based on this picture, but it looks long enough to potentially need them. You can also apply a triple antibiotic ointment to the area once clean. Do not apply a bandage to the area. It should scab over in 24-48 hours. If it doesn't, or you see any green/yellow discharge, there is swelling, or there is pain, I would take Alika to a vet to make sure there isn't an infection. Good luck and kisses to Alika!

Sometimes they can be closed, other times bandaging may be best. Ideally wounds should be addressed as quickly as possible to allow for optimal healing. Waiting another day may make closing the wound impossible if it's an option. Make sure that Moose cannot lick the wound, this may require an e-collar (lampshade cone of shame). If it is painful or continuing to bleed he should be seen tonight.

I don't recommend it. Although quite safe on superficial wounds, dogs lick and ingest most of the topical ointment you apply and therefore should be used only under direct veterinary supervision and if there are no other appropriate options. Many human ointments contain multiple other ingredients which are not necessarily safe to be swallowed.
