My dog has fragrant paw balm. How to remove it and is it toxic?

If there was to be a problem, it would typically show up within 2-12 hours after exposure. If you see depression, weakness, incoordination, muscle tremors, salivation, vomiting, a skin rash, or collapse, get him into a vet immediately. I'd monitor him for the time period I mentioned above, but after that time period passes and if there are no signs, he should be ok. I hope this helps!

The toxic effect of turpentine is very similar to petroleum hydrocarbon toxicosis. That is a severe and disease-like reaction that occurs when a dog is exposed to refined petroleum oil products, or ingests products of this type. I would recommend to take your dog to your veterinarian especially if you suspect he may have licked or ingest as well the turpentine. He will be bathed at the hospital, and possibly given topical antibiotics (and antinflammatories or pain killers) to prevent infection of the skin due to irritation. Your veterinarian will assess as well any other lesion that may be present in the oral cavity and tongue.

Apparently Kurt had his own plans for New Years! None of the oils are toxic to dogs (unless there is something that is not listed in the Fragrance Oils), but if he ate 8 ounces of it, that is a lot of oils and he certainly could have some diarrhea from it. If the diarrhea is mild, you could just add some cooked white rice to his food to help it resolve. If it is worse, you could feed him 1/2 cooked white rice and 1/2 cooked white meat chicken (no skin or bones) until the diarrhea has resolved. If the diarrhea is severe, has blood in it, Kurt is lethargic or the diarrhea continues for more than a few days, I would see your veterinarian. Good luck! Hopefully he will be fine. Hello. He will be just fine. Poor Zeus, his sense of smell is so much better than ours that one good whiff was enough to just about knock him off his feet. But he will be fine. This is usually designed to be completely harmless for dogs and the vomiting may be caused by a slight gastrointestinal irritation at this stage. As a first line approach, I would suggest to withhold food for the next 8-12 hours and then start feeding with a bland diet based on boiled chicken and rice in small portion every 6 hours for the following 48hours. Then gradually reintroduce the normal diet over 5 days. I would definitively recommend a veterinary check up if the signs persist or you notice diarrhoea, more vomiting, lethargy or inappetence.
