My puppy has parvo symptoms. Is it safe to give them vaccines?

It very well could be parvo. I suggest you get her to your vet ASAP for an exam and testing. You really need to know if it is parvo or not. Either way, your vet will help you determine the cause of the bloody diarrhea and give you treatment options. Then, once this diarrhea is cleared up you can get her started on her vaccines. If both dogs were properly vaccinated for parvo, then it would be unlikely. However, I am concerned that there could be some infectious or toxic process going on. Since your other dog died, I would recommend that Bane see a vet as soon as possible. I would still recommend a parvo test, as well as investigation into other causes that look like parvo (often lethargy, vomiting, and diarrhea), such as intestinal parasites, liver disease, intestinal blockage, etc. Your vet may recommend x-rays and bloodwork in addition to a parvo test.

Poor Daisy! If she's vomiting, acting lethargic, and not wanting to eat or drink much, this is quite serious and she needs to be seen by a veterinarian right away. I would recommend taking her in today for an exam. She may have an illness like parvo at this point, even if she tested negative recently - or she may have some other problem causing her current symptoms. Regardless of the underlying cause, these symptoms can be life-threatening in a puppy this age, so she needs veterinary care right away.

I'm sorry Bea isn't feeling well at the moment! Typically puppies will receive a combination shot called a DHPPi (distemper, hepatitis, parvovirus, parainfluenza). If she received a parvo shot only, which would be unusual, then no it will not protect her from distemper. I would check her vaccine book to see if she received a DHPPi shot, but also keep in mind that since she hasn't received her full course of vaccines, she still won't be fully protected from any disease she was vaccinate for until the three courses of vaccines are complete. It is possible, however, that her symptoms are caused by a respiratory virus which would cause her to sneeze and have watery eyes. It would also cause a decrease in appetite. Because she is young puppy that isn't fully vaccinated, the best course of action is to have her seen by a vet now. The vet can diagnose what is causing her symptoms and can treat her for it. If your regular vet is closed, I would take Bea into an ER vet; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. Hello and thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. The first two doses of parvo vaccine were given correctly but the third one was given way too late. It would be safer to give Mocha another dose of parvo vaccine, about 3-4 weeks after the one she just had. That will make sure that she is fully protected and she is not any danger for the new puppy.

I am so sorry that your puppy has parvovirus. If you don't feel comfortable administering the shot that is ok. You can certainly wait the 6 hrs and have your vet do this later today. This is understandable. Then discuss with your vet about an alternative route (by mouth) or just going in to have the vet administer it daily. Hi there. Assuming Sophie has had her full vaccination schedule and appropriate boosters then the likelihood of her becoming ill with parvovirus is very rare. Of course, some animals don’t respond as well to vaccines as others, but that is a rare occurrence. If for some reason she does get sick and you have proof of vaccination given by a veterinarian then most vaccine companies will pay for treatment.
