Is Parastar for mange safe to use with Nexgard flea/tick prevention?

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Not 100% sure what you mean by an Advantix flea bath. Advantix is a topical flea treatment applied on the skin of dogs. Yes you can use Nexgard along with Advantix. Great multimodal flea/tick strategy. After you have used both oral and topical treatments together for 3 months or so, any environmental problem inside the home should be addressed. That gives enough time for most if not all of the immature stages to mature and be killed by the products. After that time period, you may be able to drop back down to one product each month. Depends on your geographical location and your particular flea problem. Good luck

Yes, if you feel that you need additional flea protection, you can use a topical and an oral preventative at the same time. I do recommend that you separate them by 2 weeks. This is not because of toxic interactions but just to help overlap the coverage.

The combination of the products is known to be safe, so there would be no worry of it causing any adverse effects. I assume the vet meant to give the capstar to quickly kill any adults and to give the nexgard to ensure he doesn't get re-infested from fleas in the environment. This would be an effective way to kill all the fleas and perhaps your vet has other reasons for prescribing the combination (maybe they have experience using one versus the combination). The Nexgaurd alone should work though, so if you really don't want to just give one, then that would be the one would recommend. I would recommend calling the veterinarian and asking if this is OK though. It's also good to treat the environment for fleas, because fleas can reproduce and nest in the environment and continually cause an issue. I would not use these two products consecutively. Their combined used hasn't been studied much, but it is just safe to use only one flea/tick prevention in this case. It won't be an issue to use NexGuard today with the Advantage applied yesterday. It is two different drugs that won't interfere with eachother. Best of luck with Ivan.
